the cost should be 250, 500, and 1000 dilithium and make it take 10 greens to make a blue and 10 blue to make a purple or there is going to be a glut of greens and blues no one wants because you removed them from being used in star bases and the cost is to high to grind them.
option 2 let us contribute greens blues and purples to star bases and have them count as a number of whites based on color contributed.
I think it's great idea to get rid of a glut of duty officers on the market, but the dilithium cost to grind up to a very rare would be high.
1 uncommon = 250 dil
1 rare = 10 x 250 + 500 = 3000 dil
1 very rare = 10 x 3000 + 1000 = 31,000 dil
The dilithium cost shouldn't be exceptionally higher than the very rares purchased from Lt. Ferra for 12,000. The trade off is grinding has a random result but can be resold where as Ferra's are bound.
Maybe use 100, 250, 500
1 uncommon = 100 dil
1 rare = 10 x 100 + 250 = 1250 dil
1 very rare = 10 x 1250 + 500 = 13,000 dil
Borticus has said several times that they'd have to rewrite the code for starbases to accomodate option 2. That being said... He apparently does have the idea floating around in his brain.

To be clear, it could be done without a code change. But you'd get the exact same contribution credit for a Purple as you would for a White, and we don't want people contributing rare/expensive items without an adequate return on investment.

I still think the better solution to keep the DOFF system more as it was intended is to apply the new dilithium costs to the down-conversion and return the old costs for the up conversion. Now with the changes to the Starbase system most of the up conversion will be for use or sale. Here is more of what I was thinking for the down conversion:
Purple - 3 Blue
Purple - 6 Green
Purple - 27 White
The "new" Blue-Purple costs divided up among these three
Blue - 3 Green
Blue - 9 Common
The "new" Green-Blue costs divided up among these two
Green - 3 White
The current White-Green cost
Really the issue is people continually breaking down and rebuilding DOFFs until they get one they like. Make the breaking down of DOFFs more costly not the entrance to the system of up grinding.
I'd also like someone to explain the real reason why a "tax" was levied on the 5-pack. 1,000 dilithium is enough for people to just not use it anymore so why not just remove it then. I am curious to see who still and would still toss 1k dilithium at most commonly 4 whites and a green.

However, the one from Lt. Ferra are a guarantee. We know and can buy exactly the DOFF we want. In the grinders it is all random, that is the huge difference people do not seem to be accounting for at all, even the devs. 31,000K for a gamble???? Even making it so it costs 12,500K, for a gamble??? I just fail to see the logic of this change to the up-converter and what it is really addressing.

Yes, 1000 Dil is a bit much, but not 2 seconds away is the oportunity to earn 480 dil every 20hrs if my memory is correct. So if you do the lore mission daily, your costs are soon covered. Heck, now that my Doffs are getting pretty blue heavy (have not done even one upgrind) I'm getting plenty of Dil to cover this new tax.
I'm more bothered about having to wait longer for my Doff's. Shouldn't me paying for them speed up the process instead of slowing it down?

As to the real reason... your kidding right?
