Fleet DOFF cost change AKA ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?

Okay, so, I'm on the fence on a lot of S7 changes. As a leader of a small fleet, we're seriously going to miss some of those dil sources. T2 is....a ways off, now. But I did recognize that the investigate daily was not what it was intended to be, and that's fine and whatever. (I am less pleased with the changes to STF rewards, but hey, I don't -have- to do STFs.)

But I logged in today to check the inching progress of our little fleet, and noticed some serious inequity on "Station Engineering Officer on Starbase". Don't get me wrong, the move from three purple doffs to 15 white doffs is a good one, and if I filled the doff requirements before the change, eh, sometimes you buy something right before the price drops, and you're just out of luck.

Except my three purple doffs apparently weren't -worth- fifteen whites, because now I'm 7 doffs shy of completion.

To reiterate, I had FILLED three purple doff requirements, and now I am being asked to contribute SEVEN MORE WHITES.

Seriously, Cryptic, what the hell is your metric on converting stuff like this? This is like buying something, having the price go down, and -then- finding out the thing you bought has been repo'd until you pay another 10%.

What. The. Hell.

Oh trust me. That's not as bad as saving up Romulan Ale and Dosi Rotgut for the Bartender only for the requirements to change on you. I know one person who did that and now they're stuck with them since the price plummeted on the Exchange.

I sold off my entire fleet's supply of Ale when I realized the price would plummet in S7. Ale is a LOT easier to get now. (There's a Haggle for it)

Borticus answered this question pretty thoroughly in this Tribble Discussion Forum thread before the changes went live. I think it's worth quoting here, since many would have missed it.

To answer a few earlier questions, and expound on what I said in an earlier reply:

Players can use the amount of Fleet Credits they receive in return for donating an item as a judgement of its "value" to the system.

Before the changes referenced in this thread, White Dept-specific Duty Officers would return 150 Fleet Credits per Doff that was donated.

After these changes, they now give 250 Fleet Credits per Doff.

This is where we derive the 166% figure I originally quoted. (250/150=166%)

This same figure is a relative measurement to what we use internally to determine a Project's targeted cost.

So if a project previously required 1000 White Dept-Specific Duty Officers, it now only requires 600. (1000*150)/250=600

For reference, here are the Fleet Credit rewards previously granted in return for Duty Officer contributions (with updated values in parentheses, if they are still in use):

    White-Unrestricted = 75 (250)
    White-Dept = 150 (300)
    White-Spec = 300
    Green-Dept = 300
    Green-Spec = 600
    Blue-Dept = 500
    Blue-Spec = 1000
    Purple-Dept = 1000
    Purple-Spec = 2000

Using these figures, you should be able to quickly figure out how many Duty Officers are now required for a particular project.

    For example:
A project that previously required 15 Purple Astrometrics (Spec) Duty Officers (T5 Transwarp Facility upgrade), will now require x# of White Science Dept Officers instead. To determine the amount:

    (15*2000) = 30000/300 = 100 Duty Officers

Sometimes the math doesn't work out to be so pretty, and in those cases we've either rounded the new Doff values or altered the Dilithium cost (since Duty Officers are given a Dilithium value in the Holdings system, for determining project cost) to make the final values work out to a nice round figure.
