It's really hard this one, only just tried it once on normal but yeah i died a good few times far too quickly which doesn't normally happen, so they certainly need to dial it down a bit.
^This^. I want a chance to figure this one out, before we start calling for nerfs. Yeah, it's brutal. I love it. All of my ships I use for STFs, while different, are essentially setup the same. To achieve maximum DPS. Now, suddenly, I'm thinking about defense and team heals.
Hold off there Cryptic, if you're reading this here. We're just getting started on this one.
This^^^^ It was BRUTAL, 3 members of the team gave it a good try but they left(PUG) and there was NO way me and the other guy were going to complete it. Leave it alone and let me figure out how i can best get equipped to beat this thing!
On the other hand the one shots were 350K(525K dps)(not exact but it was 300+k and 500+k dps) you can shoot down the torps but there were some sneaky ones. I dont know how I can defend against this, no matter what build I have.
Its right where the end climactic battle against the borg should be, Challenging.
And I will say it again those torp volleys everyone complains about are very livable. Half full epts boosted shields and a strong hull resist bootsting skill when you see it incoming and you live to fly out the other side.
If your a escort the cruiser of the group should hit you with an extends and a A2S. If your tinny hulled low on shields and armor escort is to far away from anyone esle to get heals or they dont trust you to be able to live through it even if they do, "Own damn fault" Ponder over game dynamics while you watch the respawn timer tick.
This instance is fine, just don't pug it and if you can't do it, change your build, because you'll fail if you don't have a good pve one. Hive onslaught needs many things but definitely not a nerf. If you're not good at it you still have 3 other space STFs to play. We also need a good challenge!
And with the reputation powers, it'll be even more easy. It's not *hard* once you understand how the mission works, you'll need to figure it out and get better builds with some knowledge about how to use your abilities. I see many people wasting all of them after minor damage. There's no mystery in instakills, it's the player, not the borg. I never get one shot, because i've spend time testing the mission.
I like a challenge, but I think we can all agree that invisible instakill torpedoes are just annoying. There is no challenge to it, and when was the last time you saw the borg using any form of cloaking, let alone for a torpedo?
The issue is not the Hive mission, it's Borg in general post s7. Damage of several abilities have been greatly increased, to the point where unbuffed, invisible, torpedos can one-shot you. As well, the plasma DoT has been incresed about the same amount.
Here is a seperate thread on this in the bug subforum:
Did an ESTF today, and got hammered a little harder than I anticipated by a regular Borg Cube. So yeah, the borg are a little buffed, but they aren't OP. The ultimate irony is that the cube was doing more damage with it's torps than it's BAs. That aside, the plasma fires were also a little stronger than I remembered. But it's still manageable.
Borg aren't OP, just powerful. You just need to remember that and compensate for it.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.
My ship is stronger now than it has ever been before
STO builds call for cannons front supported by turrets
Rear highest Dps boom goes the target
Not anymore
Try that build nose to Tac cube and fire away , I'n a few seconds
Your respawning, I've pushed the last week and see this over and over
My M?bius has a star trek build many may call noob but I put
Good Dps on target and almost never get destroyed even though
I hold agro a large portion of the time
I work range 6 to 10 at max impulse always strafing I'n then out
Rotating my shields to the enemy
If the guy with more Dps than me has to respawn 5 times who really
Has more Dps ?
Plan your builds as if you were really going to be on that ship
Is what I do,that's where I get fun out of the game
If I complete a elite STF without respawning I feel like
I won the grand prize
Jellico....Engineer ground.....Da'val Romulan space Sci
Saphire.. Science ground......Ko'el Romulan space Tac
Leva........Tactical ground.....Koj Romulan space Eng
JJ-Verse will never be Canon or considered Lore...It will always be JJ-Verse
I'm just curious to see if anyone noticed anything different regarding Hive Space or even the Ground today (Sunday).
A few days ago, me and my fleetmates tried both STFs for the first time under Normal on our Fed side just to get the feel . We found it quite difficult even at normal level, but left it at that. Today, we tried it on the KDF side and its way easier.
One would think...maybe our KDF characters are simply better equipped to handle, but we did notice the V'Gers ain't spewing that many plasma balls and regen probes. So we were able to finish the STF fairly easily. The Ground one was still tricky in the end, but we got it eventually.
We'll do more practice runs before going to Elite but I'm thinking that perhaps the Hive is being tweaked at the server side, so perhaps there is some kind of adjustment.
Any feedback or update would be greatly appreciated.
did seem to be neutered today, I guess the whiners won the argument.
whut? so fast? without a patch? or even maintenance downtime? during weekend? Doesn't sound plausible...
Maybe there is a random element to this? (I've often wondered why the STFs seem easier or harder some days, but have usually blamed it on perception/human error...)
No nerf needed! It's "elite" for a reason, and I quite enjoy the challenge (finally!). There is infected space elite for those who find it too hard :P

Yea it may need a tweak i think, mind you i wouldnt worry too much as STF's will become pretty empty once players realise you dont ever need to do them etc.
If you want to go up in the Omega Reputation System, players will want to do them. Its said but true sooner or later they will be empty.
A lot of help and ideas have been posted and the mission just really isn't all that difficult if you have a good ship and you use your head a little. I imagine with proper team coordination and a mission-specific spec (full kinetic resists, Aux2Damp, double up on hazards) it'd be even more of a cakewalk.
Kinda crazy how fast people run for the nerf hammer.
I find it funny that they made it the way it is
we have been crying about oneshot criticals, and now we have two big ships that will oneshot you in normal (not to mention the big group that can kill you by looking at you in elite)
the only good thing about it, is it needing a bit less dps (or rather more of other abilities) as in you need to survive for the optional (second)
Kinda crazy how fast people run for the nerf hammer.
Oooo... there is a build that can survive this! Then it can't be anything wrong? Since the torps are invisible, you'd need 100% up-time on AtoD, and even with 2 copies of HE, 15 seconds is plenty to burn through your entire hull with DoTs. And getting a HE from a friend? then he burns up in your place, as those un-buffed torps are going at almost FAW-like distribution.
Anyway, HE is besides the point, as the torp itself has enough punch to one-pop you. And if you survive the first, the next 2-3 may only be seconds behind. Even if you're not the target.
There is absolutely no need for a nerf, if anything a small buff would be good. It's nice that there is one mission where the NPCs actually put up a fight and it would a shame if whiners ruin that because they can't stand there being even one mission that they can't just faceroll their way through. There isn't even any exclusive reward for this mission, so I don't get the knee-jerk calls to nerf everything.

being one-shot is not:
- fun
- challenging
- interresting
- a chance to show off skill
it's just stoopid. Like it is now, going into a STF with a BoP is just pointless. You'll be one-shot, repeatedly.

Well personally I never get totally one-shotted even when I'm not cycling resists, and I run some pretty squishy ships. Once in a blue moon I'll pop because of a freak crit, or because the torp was "invisible". It's never common enough to have any substantial impact on the result of the run itself, though.
There are so many different ways to approach and counter the NPCs dude, I refuse to believe that you've tried all of them.
A good healer won't just be waiting for you to take damage before he does his thing. A well-built and well-played Eng/Cruiser or Sci/(x) will do wonders on this mission, and that's a good thing. It means Cryptic is slowly learning and developing.

God, lvl 60 CW. 17k.
Yes, please stop on by here. I'd like some more thoughts on the horribly overpowered Borg.

hahahahaha. Sorry but getting optional in Hive Space Normal is a joke xD
But Elite is evil xD
Please don't nerf it devs. We need a challenge in STO. Don't listen to the stupid ones (noobs), casual players and the new ones (newbs).
ONE challenge. Please leave ONE challenge in the game :-)
Thanks :-)
Horribly done, IMO.
