New "OFFLINE" ship FX. Do not want...

gilineagilinea Member Posts: 0 Arc User
I just finished downloading the new patch. I went to enter a ship battle, and get a giant cartoon OFFLINE hovering over my ship after getting attacked by a Breen cruiser. I really, really do not like this FX. How do I disable it, and others like it? (Since I'm sure there are other "system indicator" FX to go with it.)

If there isn't an option to disable it, then what files do I need to replace with a blank alpha map to disable it? That used to be the only way to get rid of the shield rings.

Seriously, whoever came up with that one needs to have their design portfolio reevaluated.

I actually don't mind it. At least it tells me what's going on with my ship without turning it into a rainbow supernova.

Is their any way to disable that particular effect without just turning off everything? Or has anyone located the texture map for it?

Yes after doing some research, I found the folder. Do a search on your computer for "Cryptic Studios", double click on that....then find the folder called "Star Trek Online" and delete that bad boy...BAM! Problem solved!

Tholians and Breen both pack subsystem targeting and would be happy to show you.

I'm not complaining about it mind you. Its just odd compared to the smaller visual cues used for most other debuffs. *shrugs*

I had seen it on Tribble. I do not mind it so much. Personally, if they had some sort of visual on your ships readout, that would be super. Other than your shield facings dissappearing, there is nothing there that shows any other subsystem offline.

For me it's not so much the colours, I like that it's an actual word rather than a weird TRIBBLE symbol that makes me feel I should have learnt Egyptian hieroglyphs just to understand WTF is going on.

I agree that an option would be nice, I'm all for options. However Cryptics record on these things means it'll take a long time if ever. We did EVENTUALLY get the option to turn shield rings off, but we STILL have impulse trails, we STILL have no options on walk/run animations, we STILL have no race/class options for our android Boffs and even less for photonicBoffs. It really seems to come down to someone at Cryptic agreeing with what's being said, if no one there does, good idea or not, it'll stay right where the impulse trails are.

Oh, its OUR ship thats offline? I thought we were really giving it to that borg TRIBBLE in the Red alert. I agree, thats lame. When I take screenshots, I want all those mmo graphics off so it looks like a pure tv/movie battle. Putting giant letters onto ships is lame. That graphic should just be on our dashboard. I have my shield rings turned off in space for a reason. So if you want to tell me my subsystems are offline, make little LCARs (or icons the Sci ships use for subsystems) buttons attached to the ship hull/shield dashboard and when they are working, they are shaded blue like the dashboard is, when they are offline, light them up red individually. Also put these buttons on the enemy ship status on our dashboard.

Once again, attention to details not followed, and I throw Dan dirty look #257 as to why that giant billboard graphic got approved.

The OP is right, whoever thought of this hideous information animation should be shoveling s##t for a living.

A ridiculous and unnecessary animation that completely removes the player from any sense of immersion and enforces the fact that you are looking at a game.

More good work Cryptic.....please allow use to turn it off.

It applies to both your ships and the enemies you are shooting at. If a system goes offline, you get the giant 'Offline' logo flashing up. It looks great when you disable the weapons on the Borg Queen's giant space TRIBBLE. The Offline message almost covers the entire end of the Unimatrix ship.

What, all the various trays showing your stats don't tell you it's a game? :P

Expecting immersion from an MMO with UI covering a quarter/half the screen seems to be expecting too much, imo.

And the animation isn't THAT bad, seriously. I find it rather cute, the few times I notice it (I barely register it really) :)

I really like the fx but I dislike that they are showing offline when systems aren't, and when your systems do go offline you are dead in the water with no sign.

I'd like the option to turn the displays off, honestly. Didn't the devs figure that there are some folks who don't like that sort of thing when they had the mess with the shield rings?

Hmm. Can't help but feel people are over-reacting just a little.

I've seen them, tiny words that flash for a few seconds then disappear. Hardly a game breaker.

I will get roasted for this I expect, but I'm also starting to think people are knit-picking every little fault they can find for the sake of complaining about it.

The sad thing is that there are probably some here who after reading this, actually tried it, and are now having to download the whole game again...

    Way to be a smartass...

I thought it was kinda funny myself, the first time I saw it was in a borg invasion and it popped up over the command ship when I used target shields. I thought it was an error message at first about something that got broken with the patch, then realized what it was for and laughed.

I have no problem with this, although I wish there was a function to turn off ability effects, similar to how we can turn off shield rings.
