I have to say this - Cryptic may be intending to reduce the amount of dilithium in players hands to drive Zen sales ... however this inflates the value of dilithium and reduces the value of zen.
Players will adapt quickly to the reduced value of zen by buying less of it.
I just dont see people saying, the value of my Zen has been reduced by 50% so to compensate I will pull out my credit card and purchase 200% more of it.
I do see people saying, wow, $20 used to buy me a good amount of dilithium. Now it costs $40 to buy the same amount. How much is that guildwars 2 game over on that shelf?
Aestu is right on this issue. Arguing against his points is optimistic thinking.
Am I the only one who looked at that post and thought "This is an alternate account made by aestu"? :P
Stating that there are many alternatives to something is not optimistic thinking, it is presenting facts. And the facts are that there's a lot of ways you can get doffs of various qualities if you take the time to do doff chains. There's supports, there's Chrysalis (does the repeatable there give you doffs on crit? I don't remember critting it.), there's the embassy chains (officer exchange ftw!), there's asylums, there's the new Caitian/Ferasan chain, there's prisoner exchanges, instigating defections, exchanging Dominion prisoners for Dominion doffs, cultural exchanges, and the career cadres.
Quite easy.
Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.
That's what we did prior to exchanges, and I already had 200 or more purple doffs before the grinder. Few of them were support ones, because I don't need that many clones. It took me months to build my current roster, and I have less than 20 doffs coming from the grinder in it. They don't always give the best ones. It'll just take the time it took before season 6. That's not a big deal.
If people don't lurk these forums and don't (want to) join the dedicated channel, I think we shouldn't blame the devs for that. Again, the only purpose of the grinder was to help us building our starbases. Now that we only need whites, this purpose is gone and the use of this tool changed too.
Now you only need whites. I can't make it clearer. All other qualities are extras you use for endgame doffing. You're free to play this part of the game or not. Nothing in the doff system is mandatory now, except recruiting white doffs at the academy.
Look, if they are going to increase the cost of upgrading DOffs through reassignment, at least make the prices more reasonable? So that they are less than the regular cost of getting a purple?

It would have been nice to have White DOffs available at the store instead of having to wait to recruit them.
Anyone that uses the upgrinder to get a RANDOM purple doff is a complete moron, has no idea how the system works and as far as I'm concerned, deserves the boning they get...
Use the multiple free missions or buy them from the exchange, pretty freaking easy.

My only regret is about the free academy pack, it wasn't really hurting the game.
Yes and no.
did it hurt things on it's own? no.
But, it was imbalanced. It was pretty much the best source of free doffs in the game. It gave you 5 just for doing the mission. AND you could keep them in the doff pack until you needed them. Most of my characters have a stack of these packs because I don't bother using them most of the time. Cultural exchanges give 1, 3 on a crit. branch recruiting is 2, 3 on crit. the general recruiting assignment gave you as many doffs as several of the other academy recruiting missions. AND you could keep them in a box for later.
so yeah, I don't think it really NEEDED the dil cost, but I understand why the Devs did it.

I don't think the Asylum missions give Engineering doffs with the Resolved trait required for Mk XII console fabrication though.

the grinder has a small chance to giving the ultra rare doffs so it was worth grinding up unwanted blues.
I don't think the Asylum missions give Engineering doffs with the Resolved trait required for Mk XII console fabrication though.
Correct the only way to get those is from packs or the doff grinder...
Simply put all the "experts" arguing this is a good thing, well it is for them because they have a surplus of Purple Doffs they want to make extortionate amounts of EC from. Furthermore they benefit by others not acquiring the Console Doffs... once again to exploit the market.
I think also the Caitian chain only offers Flight Deck officers, though I could be wrong but that seems to be what the Wiki is inferring, so that chain is basically useless for most players if that is the case.
I don't think the grinder was a problem at all, except to Cryptic who wanted their Zen store offering to be more of a cash-cow.
I think they are trying to make white doffs a commodity for building Starbases and all higher doffs for doing doff missions.
By putting a cost onto upgrading doffs but not down grading them they will make whites very cheap and the greens, blues, and purples very expensive.
Once a purple and blue doff gets into the game more than likely it will never leave (unless it is not a good one). Greens are for the start of doing doff missions which later they want you to make into whites.
I don?t remember when or where but I thought that they want high quality doffs to be very expensive. That?s why they put in the big hungry man eating Starbases into the game.
Also I think doff prices are falling at the moment. Some whites are only 3k or 4k.
I wonder if the changes are supposed to support a larger ploy to get us to buy doff packs instead of the grinding. You know just saying they may have had a reason besides making it a dilithium sink?
I don't think the Asylum missions give Engineering doffs with the Resolved trait required for Mk XII console fabrication though.
They do if you stumble upon a Cardassian, Bajoran or Ferasan asylum.
Also, there's also the officer exchange missions - any non-military non-photonic doff can be exchanged for a doff of the specific race. Karemman and Paradan ones are the best, they CANNOT give anything worse than a green even if you throw a white in - makes for good material for the exchanges that actually yield Resolve. (look up, replace "asylum" with exchange)
Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.
The exchange doesn't magically fill with DOFFs for purchasing. They have to come from somewhere.
No, the exchange will be filled by people turning their brains on and using doffjobs while using the doff system. Seriously, I never had any trouble making purples, season 7 didn't remove any free way to get it (it wasn't free) but it removed the easy, already overpriced (500 dil for a random geologist or warp theorist, seriously?), and inefficient system. They just made it even less efficient.
It won't change the game, except for people not willing to learn the doff mechanics.
Anyway the markets already gave their verdict: purple, blue and green doffs are worth nothing on the exchange. It means they have very little value for people, and indeed, I don't see the necessity of having purples, except for your active roster, since you don't need them as consumables anywhere. Tactical and security whites will still have some value but the rest will be completely ignored since purples get in everyday without any sink to balance that. More purples every day and no sink can't make them cost more.
This was a really dumb change. It was already expensive to grind up to a purple DOFF, and the price to do so now is utterly ridiculous compared to what the DOFF tier rewards cost for buying them with dilithium.
The grinder is RANDOM. I didn't like getting purple chefs from it before S7, and I'm not even going to risk it now, because the cost is stupidly high for something I have no choice of what I get.
Converting that dilithium to zen and buying a pack is easily a far better option right now. So why grind out a potentially useless purple instead of buying an entire DOFF pack with the same amount of dilithium?

Resorting to calling people who don't agree with you stupid, lazy or bad discredits your argument. You did this same thing in another thread, for the same reason. PWE made a change to the game, reducing Dil supply, to squeeze the playerbase for cash, and you were and are trying to defend them doing so.
It's a silly position to take, and resorting to insults to do so demonstrates just how little else there is for PWE reps to stand on.

Because he is right. They didn't take everything away. Cryptic just adjustet the costs of a small portion of the doff system.
If you are not clever enough to this... well, your problem xD

Calling anyone who doesn't share your opinion stupid invalidates your argument.
The fact you haven't been actioned for insulting other posters speaks for itself.
PWE did this to drain Dil to sell more Zen. Watching Zen tumble on the Dil XC proves as much.

I only gave two options.
Free missions or purchase from the exchange.
Dilithium upgrades are not viable.

Bajoran exchange do. It's slower though.
Again, most of the complaints come from ignorance, thanks for proving my point! :P

Agreed. The goal is to tighten the screws on players and make them spend cash on Zen.
Watching the Dil exchange tumble as players spend, the strategy is obviously working as intended.
Don't you dare twist his post!
He meant ignorance of just about every doff-granting mission and you know it.
