Is there a reason behind requiring that we travel back to space dock or a starbase to heal our character? why couldn't we just go to the sickbay on our ship?

If you have the right items in your Inventory, you don't have to go back to ESD to heal your Ground toon.
(they can even be in yer Personal Bank and still work)
As far as I know, you only go back to those places if ya want it done for Free.
(I haven't done it in ages so I'm not sure if it's still Free)

I'd actually like to see what kirscht is talking about, I always run around for the Duty Officers, I might as well get some more use out of my Sick Bay.
Well, cryptic should add useful functions to our ship interiors, so it won't be just decorations but a useful decks like the tuffli freighter, it will had doctors in sickbay, to heal your bridge officers and yourself; engineers in Engineering, to heal your ships damage. An Armory will be great too, to buy weapons but only federation phaser type weapon or klingon disruptor type weapon on kdf character.
It just seemed to me it would add a touch of realism to it. Kirk and the gang didn't have to run back to earth every time they needed patching up. That's what McCoy was for. I don't think they had to pay McCoy, either.
On the other hand I can see trying to add an element of difficulty to the game. I suppose you have to thiink twice about being reckless if you know you have to either fork over some dough, or run back to spacedock.
But maybe they could add that element in other ways. They could have three medical duty officer slots that you try to fill with three different levels of doctors. The lowest level can only fix mild injuries, but you need a mid-level doc to fix major injuries and so on. And maybe they could rotate out like in real life. A soldier/sailor doesn't stay at the same command forever. Maybe you only get 25 heals out of them before they rotate out and you need to find others to replace them.
