I have to say, I have thoroughly enjoyed the new content. All of it.
I've read many QQ'ing threads already regarding the difficulty of the Onslaught Mission. My take; The other Elite STF's need to be brought to this level of difficulty
As I am sure many of you have read on the forums... the existing Space Elite STF's have been nerfed to a point that they can be completed (with optional) with 2 Man Teams.
I have felt for sometime that AT BEST, the existing Elite STF's should be called Advanced.... the level of difficulty in Elite Onslaught is truly Elite!
The existing Space STF's are pure Tac DPS fests. Not Onslaught! You want a mix of classes and players!
If you call yourself Elite... then you should be thrilled by the challenge, and starting to devise strategies to test. If you call yourself Elite, and find it too difficult... go back to normal.
Thank you Cryptic... Finally FINALLY an Elite STF that can rightfully call itself Elite!
A 3rd difficulty I could get behind... just because I could avoid it...
but no, the existing STFs shoulf not be brought to Onslaughts level. I didnt have fun when I played it... and currently I do have fun with the existing STFs.

In the same light, many of us are bored with the Elite STF as they exist today (hence we are not having fun) because the missions are just too easy. I mean seriously... the current space Elite STF can be completed with two man teams.
I'd be happy if the current elite were made Advanced, and the real Elite be brought to the level of difficulty as Onslaught Elite.
My very first run was with a generic Excelsior build that I slapped together on an old toon on Tribble.. Random weapons consoles and BOFFs.
Jumped in line, got tossed in a PUG and we had to READ THE DIRECTIONS and figure out how to beat it.
Took us 45 min but we got it.
The next three runs were a bit easier as I refined my build.
I'll give you a massive spoiler: You try to DPS-rage your way through this you will struggle. You need at least one SCIENCE! with you and you need to pay attention to ranges and positioning.
The rest, figure out on your own. I've beat it four times now. If I can beat it on the first attempt with a generic build, then there is something wrong with your tactics/build/reading comprehension.
People complain they don't like grind maps they want something with a challenge.
The answer to making something challenging is not just to make it harder. We saw that with the insta-kill borg plasma torpedoes. Challenge level too low? Give the Borg super-duper weapons so they kill everyone a lot!
In fact, Cryptic's attempt to make things 'harder' often resulted in more grind, simply because 'harder' meant 'dying more often' which meant that things went slower; they weren't particularly challenging.
I don't think that the current ESTFs can, or should, be brought up to the same level of difficulty. Without completely reworking their content, it would inevitably just require slapping on more super torpedoes, make everything take twice as long, and satisfy nobody.

Honestly, I haven't died as many times as some of you claim... Did I die more? yes... but not "dozens of times". I have survived, several, plasma torpedo spreads... and Isometric hits... as for the plasma ball of death... nope that is an insta-kill... but by god, I'll take it right back to the ship that fired it before it catches me, and mess their day up. If I go, I'm taking a bunch of that ship with me.

Let Elite be Elite... not easy.
If thats the case, then the reward system needs to be reworked. Because no one should have to play the highest difficulty to get the Mk XII sets.
I mean seriously... the current space Elite STF can be completed with two man teams.
What's wrong with this? Do you have a moral objection to being able to complete endgame content by yourself? I have a lot of friends who do raiding in WoW, and getting together a ton of reasonable players is the hardest part, I'm told.
I often find a similar issue in STO- getting a good solid group of players together is often tricky. Making things require highly coordinated teams of players who know each other well often closes off that content from casual players.
If thats the case, then the reward system needs to be reworked. Because no one should have to play the highest difficulty to get the Mk XII sets.
I don't think that's necessarily true. If the high end gear is 'elite', then it seems fair that it should require something 'elite' to get it. On the other hand, I don't think that 'elite' should mean 'bonecrushingly impossible unless you and your four best friends are all strategic geniuses".

I am not talking about closing ANY content to anyone... what I object to is making things easier (nerfing to the lowest common demoninator) detracts from what it means to be Elite. If Ned the New Guy wants to attempt the mission on Elite, thats his perogitive... and should (rightfully) get his behind handed to him... and a new audio clip of the Borg laughing. Edit(2): Why should a casual player consider themselves Elite anyway? Elite should take dedication, practice, and a lot of fail before it can be achieved.
The issue I have is that if it CAN be completed by two (and those who do so should (justifiably) brag about their accomplishment ... but then it is not elite.. Difficult, yes... Advanced... Perhaps... but not Elite. If the NORMAL mission says it should only be attempted by 5 players... I expect the Elite version to put all 5 players through the wringer trying to complete it with Optionals to boot.
Edit: I'll say it again... If you call yourself Elite, or believe yourself to be Elite... then you should welcome, embrace, and herald difficulty. Not whine, and QQ that its too hard... if its too hard, go back to normal and have fun.
Why would you need a prestige set with insignificantly superior stats (Mk XI is very close) to play easy content?
I want the top tier of everything... I'm a completionist... But beyond that... I like the look of the Mk XII M.A.C.O. ground set for instance, I shouldnt be barred from getting it because it requires a team of 5 with a fool proof strategy...

You are taking this game way to seriously. Why cant I have fun on Elite? Is that not allowed? You make it soud as if having fun on the elite difficulty is a bad thing. And yet I currently do have fun playing KASE, and ISE, and even CSE. I have less fun on the ground... but thats because its the ground, and I just dislike it.
Definitely agree here! Perhaps leave infected space elite as is so those coming into elites for the first time can get used to it, and the rest for a nice challenge like the Onslaught!

You can absolutely have fun... and so should I be allowed, and frankjly the current "Elite" STF's aren't fun for me... too easy... I get enjoyment from a challenge, and a sense of accomplishment in doing something that not every Ricky Redshirt in the Rainbow Warrior can do.

Then I'll stand behind you getting your own difficulty (Ultra or whatever you wish to call it.) with no reward outside of what you get on elite, perhaps maybe you just get more than what you would on Elite... but there should be nothing exclusive to the new difficulty.
I want to get the Mk XII sets, and I need to do elites to get the neural processors to do the projects (as I understand it.) So I shouldnt be kept from it through a difficulty gap that I dont want to deal with.
I can understand why you want the gear. It is a nice tempting prize and the ground visuals are worth it.
but they were originally introduced as a trophy to show you beat the hardest content in the game.
It kinda sucked that there was such a great random factor in getting it and they changed that now.
But they retain their trophy status by being only available through the hardest content in game (and hard is relative here).
if everyone can do it without putting in teh effort to overcome the difficulty they are just another costume and don't need to be linked to that kind of content in the first place. then they could have just put the stuff into the C-Store...

Let them make that gear available at an Advanced level then. As I have already said, the current difficulty for the Elite STF, as they exist today, is not elite.
I am fine with no additional sets/equipment (they way I see it, the best equipped ships with the best weapons in game today should find it difficult to complete an Elite... and a down right achievement to get the optional. I'd settle for an Accolade (similar to NWS), and maybe an additional costume option on the existing MK XII Maco/Omega/KHG gear. As nothing more than a badge of honor.
As others have stated, the MK XII Borg Gear is MARGINALLY better than the MK XI... I don't want the Elite to be something to grind for a 1% increase in some blah gear... I want it to be something to Aspire to... Something to be proud of...
They have made the Maco/Omega/Honor Guard sets more accessible (and I'm fine with that, as it wasn't a display of skill to achieve them... it was a display of luck). I want to be able to show something that is a display of skill and ability.
Yeah an accolade or something very special (it doesn't have to be great or useful, it just has to be unique) could be nice for an additionnal difficulty level. And considering the time it took to create from scratch a brand new stf i'm pretty sure an additional level wouldn't require much work. :P
I'd go for a significant accolade (maco supreme commander or maco hero) and a medal.
I'm not looking to take anything away from anybody... If that is what you're reading, then I am mistating my goal.
Make the current Elite STF, Advanced STF (no other change)
Apply the same degree of difficulty that can be found in Onslaught, and Hive to the rest... and maybe give an accolade (no passives bonus), costume piece, title, or some such non useful non-game changing way.
I am not talking about closing ANY content to anyone... what I object to is making things easier...
That's exactly the same thing, though. I know lots of people who refuse to PUG any elite other than, say, Infected Space because the chances of failure are just too damn high.
The idea that you object to making things easier but you don't want them to be closed off to others are, essentially, a contradiction in terms. To make something harder is to reduce the number of people who can successfully complete it. That is closing it off to others.
If all you want is to make it more of a challenge, why not a handicap? Certainly, one already exists to some extent with the 'difficulty slider' for regular missions.
Leave the current normal and elite as they are, but add a difficulty slider where people can increase the death penalty and/or apply a global modifier to their individual ship/powers, say -10% (10% longer cooldown on all powers, 10% less DPV from each weapon, 10% less hull, 10% less shields, etc.)
I mean originally I'd advise you to just do an elite run with T2 ships, but apparently that's not possible anymore.
My stance is fairly simple. STFs should have an ascending level of difficulty. They don't.
It's silly that Infected Ground is the hardest ground STF.
First step is a retuning. Make KA ground harder. Make Infected ground easier. Leave Into the Hive where it is.
Second:
I think instead of (or in addition to) STF events where the rewards are increased, there should be calendar events where the STFs get easier. A tradeoff to this should be that the optionals can't be completed during the calendar event.
During the event, any STFs queued for randomly autofail all optionals and give players 25% bonus damage and damage resistance.
These act as your training opportunities, your chance to PuG in peace.
I never did say who group A or group B was relating to as it was meant as a general statement. I'll elaborate..
This new STFs should remain difficult.
The old STFs should remain at their current difficulty.
All old and current rewards on tribble should be earn-able by completing the old STFs at their current difficulty level. Aside from a possible split of ground and space earnings only because that is how it currently is.
Beyond that I don't care and support any and all suggestions made provided they don't break one of the above.
Just did the normal in my tank Oddy eng - hull never dropped below 75% - pretty much slept through it - my eng capt had too be poked a few times to wake up.
I wear my Elite armor now, and will treasure
It, took a long time a lot Of grind and dedicated
Help to finally acquire it.
The new season seven armor will be sorta like
A TRIBBLE issue uniform compared to it I'n my opinion
The new elite season 7 mission sounds great too
Bad there won't be a elite reward for it like the
Maco armor I wear is. There should be.
The reward and difficulty should be matched but to
Rename the elite stfs may be too hard for the devs at
This point I'n development.
Perhaps some sort of visual reward to add to the new armor
Could be arranged for Ultra Elite content such as
This
Maybe a Feather ? Or antenna , I think a visual reward
Will make people replay missions more than anything
As good content will as well
Jellico....Engineer ground.....Da'val Romulan space Sci
Saphire.. Science ground......Ko'el Romulan space Tac
Leva........Tactical ground.....Koj Romulan space Eng
JJ-Verse will never be Canon or considered Lore...It will always be JJ-Verse
You realize why the current STFs are so easy is because everyone has done them, refined them and figured out every blind spot and weakness against them, right? KA can be soloed each side because people exploit the gate's blindspot, not because they are "easy"
The only reason this STF is difficult is because it hasn't be analyzed, disceted and refined to a pulp yet. There will be set ups that knock those 2 ships out in seconds and people will laugh at them, they have major blindspots and weaknesses. The queen will be torn apart soon enough as well, and its not like anyone has any problem with tactical cubes anymore.
I like the idea that some folks have floated here about setting up a third level of difficulty for the STFs. I also agree with the thoughts that some have raised that instead of just pumping up the strength of the enemies the 'ultra elite' STFs should move away from straight-DPS driven challenges and be set up to require tactical maneuvering and coordination.
Part of me also wants to say that the old long-format STFs should be brought back, toned down to have a difficulty level similar to the FEs and... well, formally added to the FE lineup in the Borg and Undine (for Terradome) episode lineups. Of course, this would need to be accompanied by a reduction in rewards (no Dil, reduced or no Ω marks), but let's face it - there is a percentage of the player base who will never play STFs, or if they do will not be able to meet the equipment needs or will get turned off by some of the unpleasant behavior that can show up in PUGs at times.
TL;DR version: I am all in favor of moves to make STFs more accessible and enjoyable to a wide variety of play styles - both more and less hardcore.

The new one... is a challenge because I don't have an optimal build or a good sense of how the map is played.
Yet.
I for one welcome the change and loved the challenge.
The other STFs need to be brought up to this level. Make them into endgame raids again not simple Borg-themed grind maps.
