It's nice to see others finally reporting this and from both camps. This is an issue on both ATI and nVidia hardware and is related to AntiAliasing. I don't design graphics drivers but it's not the first time Cryptic's poor coding has caused issues like this. Get it fixed! Until then (probably going to be a few years until they bother), 2x AA minimizes this issue.
When you say you "deleted STO", did you reinstall the game, or did you quit the game? If this problem isn't resolved I can think of not only myself, but a dozen or so of other players who plan on quitting the game.

I'm trying the re-install route as there was a crash during the initial pre-s7 patch. I am hoping that this resolves the issue.
Its kinda strange. Prior to s.7 I would run my graphics at pretty much 85% of the highest setting with absolutely no issue.
Now it bombs out immediately with all the same occurrences described in this post.
Reinstalling the game does not solve the problem. It is a change in the graphics code for Season 7 that is causing this issue mainly with Intel Integrated graphics. It needs to be addressed asap as it literally makes the game unstable. I reported this while it was on Tribble as well but never received a response.
This is ridiculous, ever since Season 7 the game is unplayable. This is not a hardware issue. Any other games do not have any issues. No matter what settings are changed, the game will still TRIBBLE out. Turning off A-A, turning it on; changing the frame rate, changing the ram cap, so on and so forth, the game still craps out. I wiped the video drivers (152257) and reverted to (152254) still no help. Wiping the game and reinstalling is useless. Wiping and reinstalling DirectX is no help either.
I guess that we really are SOL if the developers are not willing to do anything about this problem.
Having the same problems here. Graphics are choppy and FPS drops into the single digits even with all video settings either off or lowest possible.

Yes, the drivers are all up to date. Fresh install of the game yesterday, after the update. But the problem is still there. I thought that it was just a matter of heavy traffic on the servers at first, but after reading this post and many like it...

I am experiencing this issue as well, i noticed it when i tried Tribble before S7, and since S7 went live it happens on Holodeck now aswell.
UI frezzes, screen goes black, desktop shows up with the graphics card error, then game restores and is fine. Sometimes this happens only once or twice, other it will happen over and over and over again until my laptop freezes, forcing a hard reset.
Graphics Card is Intel HD
hope they fix this soon
have tried reducing to minimum settings and still issue will happen, although it is a bit less when on lower settings.. but still present

Thank you very much for this. It seems to have (more or less) stabilized my game in the short term. You're a lifesaver.

This definitely helps us narrow it down a bit. Unfortunately, our error reporting tools can't handle the non-user-mode part of the driver exploding, so information on our side for this has been a bit scarce.
If these settings are actually helping, I'd really like to know so we can start from there to narrow it down. The settings I'm mostly curious about are...
Dynamic lighting,
Shadows,
Postprocessing, and
SSAO
If a few want to run with one (and only one) of these settings flipped from the "non-crashy" settings, and then report back if the crashes do happen, that'd help us narrow down exactly which one of these features (which it hopefully is just one) is causing the issue.
This is one that doesn't seem to be affecting any of our internal Intel testing machines (stacks of Intel GPU laptops) and right now suspicions are pointing at it being an Intel driver bug because it's unlikely we'd be able to make the entire display driver crash on our own otherwise.
PS: Try to keep the vitriol to a minimum, pretty please.
I have everything turned off completely and that doesn't make a difference.
Azure Nebula and the Federation Starbase Blockade are the two levels that I have the most issues with. Both are unplayable and lock up the computer. I had no issues with the Blockade mission before the Season 7 patch. It seems any level that has the exterior model of the Fleet Starbase has the graphics issue.
It seems to only affect Intel HD 2000 GPU's as my other laptop with a 3000 GPU does not have the issue and I've tried it on another computer with a 3000 GPU with no issues.

I get the same result. Graphics lowest. Bloom off. Everything I can mod, modded to the lowest. 3-4 blackouts, desktop shows. "Display driver has crashed and recovered." <(=/\=)But never does, Typical windows... (=/\=)> And then I get BSOD... Restart PC, try to do anything, BOOM. BSOD again. If they don't fix this I think I may just quit. This started just after the S7 patch. Worked fine before it.

Cryptic, Perfectworld. Get your staff on this or you will loose the majority of captains, as most computers use intel.
The screen will turn black and lag. It hasnt crashed yet, but only because the frequent recurring black screen has made me stop playing.
Its sheer frustration from not being able to play and it needs to be addressed, as others have already stated, Star Trek Online WILL lose half of it's Captains if this problem continues.
This next update better address it, or its not going to end well for anyone. The fans will be forced to quit and Perfect World will lose a ton of customers.
I've tried this too. (And some of these settings are higher than what I had.) So far, it's not helping. Screen is still freezing/flashing and STO is crashing my computer.
I know it's probably asking too much of PWE... but it would really be nice to get an update on what's going on to resolve this issue....
Today, STO has crashed on me three times and has crashed my machine twice. And I won't even bother counting the number of times STO froze my machine and then came back....
The exact thing happens to me computer...but only in mission maps.
anyone know when they are going to fix this i gone as far as reinstalling windows still did not stop trying to go Start Screen I do have windows 8 but it worked be four you brought the wonder land in let me know if and when a fix is coming out
I am having the same problem on my ACER Win 7 laptop with Intel HD graphics version 8.15.10.2827 which is the latest driver Intel released. I also applied Microsoft's fix per article KB2665946 and used all 3 steps with no success. Still get a black screen and error message that my display driver stopped responding and has recovered. This problem hasn't crashed my machine (yet) but the game blacks out for a short period and then recovers where I was.
My game settings are even lower than what shadow10052012 recommends and my laptop has intel i3 processor 4g of ram.

We've tried internally reproducing the problem on two different pieces of Intel hardware (HD3000 & 4000, IIRC), on two drivers, with no luck. I've made some speculative changes to disable new GPU profiling code that might be causing problems with the new drivers. We've asked Intel for help, but until we can repro the problem we're kind of stuck, especially since it's resetting the display driver, instead of giving us a crash report. Reading through the threads, I noticed some posters discussing an October driver, and when I checked Intel's download driver site, it looked like a different version than what I tested. We're going to give that a shot, but all of our programmers are fully booked. We've been giving CS updates to communicate to the customers, but when there's pages and pages of posts in multiple threads, it can be hard to get the message out. I'll be posting in the thread I've linked above.
Until we can get an idea of what is wrong, and work with Intel to get a fix, rolling back the driver might help, as indicated in the other thread. I noticed there is also a December driver update, and you could try that, but I haven't tested it.
