Q: (russel1997) What is the state of PvP in STO?
Dstahl: My personal opinion is that PvP has never been a strong suit of STO or of Cryptic Studios in the past. Over the last year, the studio has been coming to terms with this and has dedicated internal development resources to analyzing and building a fun PvP prototype. This has helped us learn and understand the tech necessary to make PvP a healthy part of our games.
That effort was largely successful internally and helped identify how we should proceed with PvP in the future. Earlier this year, STO jumped at the opportunity to be the first Live Cryptic game to use this new tech and started work on revamping a space PvP map that could serve as a test bed for players to provide feedback. That test map was nearly finished when ?Gozer? left the team. It has since passed to another designer on the team and he is coming up to speed on everything that had been developed over the past several months.
At this point, we do not feel that rushing something out right away is going to help. In order to improve PvP for the players who currently do like it, it will need more extensive testing time than we?ve typically allowed in the past. The first step is going to be putting a test map out for players sometime in the next few months and then seeing where we go from there. Only after we believe the existing PvP community confirms our opinion that this is an improvement to PvP, will we consider putting serious development effort towards a releasable map set.
Thus, the writing on the wall is that PvP will continue as is for the duration of Season 6 and will slowly begin to improve in Seasons 7 through 9, with the end goal of having an awesome and fun PvP ?battleground? like map by the time Season 9 ships. Not exactly the best news if you are waiting for new PvP maps, but at least it gives a clear view of what we are doing.
Now this is not a Flame thread so the PvPers out there who whine at everything please reframe yourself from posting, I am just asking the Devs what is the status on this as of now?
I doubt anyone has asked the Devs about this since then but I would just like an update on progress if you are allowed to do so. Just even the slightest hint.
P.S. It says from Season 7 to 9, so what new Tech is coming with Season 7?

Think about this:

The Vesta is like a double whammy, a work of "genius". Every player will run to it with their wallets wide open and it'll be so overpowered it'll make PvP even less fun. Lots of money for cryptic and the final nail in PvPs coffin.
The next stage will be to remove the PvP queue all together, leaving PvP to challenge matches.
I'm not kidding, I can seriously see them doing this.

Yes, the Vesta definitely does do that... it definitely does do that.
It means any time between after Season 7 is launched up until Season 10.

Unless you're counting all of the new stats and ship that we already know about, then I don't think anything is coming in Season 7.
They've been saying that improvements are coming to PvP for a long LONG time, but every dev that starts working on it has ended up leaving Cryptic a few weeks or months after they started working on it.
How many Devs have we gone through so far, 3? 4?

Seriously you people are making it hard to even play this game. If you don't like PvP don't play it! You think Mechwarrior is going to be better (or GW2) then go play it, no one gives a TRIBBLE about those games, this is STO's forums, not those other games. Also, to that PvEer who came and flamed on my thread because you decided to voice your opinion, please for the love of Kirk If you don't like it, don't play it!

The majority of people in these forums want to be here and playing STO, we're just tired and bitter about everything that has happened over the years. Yet we're still here for one reason or another, namely (at least I like to thing) that in some form this game is still Star Trek and people want to play that.
You cannot post in the PvP forums without getting some of that bitterness over what has been done by Cryptic over the years. The Dev's don't post here very often not because of all of the hate, but because A: there is only 1 Dev that we know of that is doing anything at all with PvP, and B: PvP is not the central focus of the game's coming update (or the game itself) so their interest in our opinions on things is pretty limited.

Those of us who are still here have stopped a long time ago to seriously complain about a lack of additions to PVP.
Most of us have accepted that PVP will never truly get better. But we still refuse to accept that it gets worse all the time. If this wasn't an mmo where we have to accept every patch, many pvpers would have stopped applying new patches a long time ago.
"Improve PVP!" changed into "Please don't make it worse than it already is!" well over a year ago.
