Ok, I know it's not thanksgiving yet. (Or is it? I couldn't care less)

As a forum veteran, I'd like to say a few words about the current state of the PvP forum. Those who have been here as long as me may need a reminder, and those who have come later need to know how lucky we are. Think back to the earlier days of PvP forum....

What happened if we posted a rant at the forum? It got closed!
What happened if we mentioned the EP in negative words? We got an infraction!
What happened if we asked what rule we had broken? We got banned!
What happened if we wrote a thread trying to enlighten the devs on a broken part of the game? We got banned!
What happened if we politely brought attention to an imbalance? Nothing!
How often did a dev ask for player advice? Never!
How often did a dev explain his reasons in the forum? Never!

Compare this to what we have today! Today we have one or more devs following the PvP forum. We're being take seriously! We're being shown respect! Our advice is actually taken into consideration! Changes are made to the game based on OUR advice!

Just a year or two ago, this would have been unheard of! For a while we even had an open forum-war with the community representative, leading to basically all the veteran pvp'ers being banned!

So in light of this, I ask you all: Treat Borticus (and the other devs) with respect! He is not obliged to discuss the game with us! He is not obliged to follow our advice! It is not his job to push his colleagues into making pvp better! --- He does this because he's a nice person! He does it because he values our opinion. He does this because he believes in the PvPers as a means to make STO better. Let's not disappoint him, or give him reason to cut us off!

Sure, sometimes he does things that we don't like. That, however, is not a reason to be rude or impolite. We do not see the whole picture, and we should not presume to know what happens internally at Cryptic Studios. Often, the reason why things happen the way they do are unknown to us.

To sum it up: These days, we, the PvP community, are treated with respect. We are not enitled to this, we sure have not earned it. This is a gift to us, and we better start treating it that way. Whatever resentment we have towards the general course of the game, the devs who come here and read what we write, and try to answer us, deserve our respect!

So today, my thanks go to Borticus and the other devs who spend time in this section of the forum, listening to our complaints and replying to them! :)

Have noticed here and there though, that the devs get blasted for not posting and then they get blasted when they do post... they genuinely seem to enjoy when somebody says something positive - which I think anybody can relate to regardless of what career choice they made, eh?

So I can see tossing them a thanks... 28 days from now, mind you. :P

-points to why we don't have fleet marks or won't get reputation marks as the prime example-

I think he just accidentally burped up Cryptics poorly designed excuse why PvP don't have fleet rewards. A standard copy/paste job from an internal memo. When we pointed out why their logic was flawd, he admitted this.

I still hope "PvP Reputation" is the next one after "Omega rep" and "Romulan rep". (Hope! Not believe!)

The Devs are just workers like everybody else. Its there job to come under fire at times for thier job, though personal insults are over the line.

Muffins, got banned for my love of Muffins once.

That's just it. Communicating with customers is the job of branflakes. Borticus can perform his duties without saying one word in the forums, should he choose to. Still, he chooses to talk to us. That's why we're lucky! :)

that doesnt excuse how he said it in the first place. i mean come on.... seriously, kerrat is one of the most complained about parts of pvp (buggy map) but is going to be completely ignored for omega marks.

and the foundry being a "fleet only mission"...

then of course lets not forget all the other "fleet only missions" that will be getting fleet marks in season 7, yet not a single bone is thrown to pvp.

they can have my thanks when they actually do something to better pvp and not keep making it worse.

they always take one tiny step forward (fixes here and there) and then 2 huge leaps back (basically everything else released)

No, i'm sorry but you earn peoples' thanks, respect and loyalty.

The only thing that makes me read these forums are other PVPers. I give Cryptic my "thanks" in the form of constructive feedback and money.

I'm not here to do they're jobs or be mini-modded by Alecto who is/was the classic case of "Never had so little power gone to so big a big head".

PVP attention then i'll sing my praises. Thats how it works.

While it's nice to have a dev that actually communicates with the community, actions speak louder than words, and all we've had so far are words.

Yeah, well they are finally adjusting some of the things people were complaining about.

They even had a huge nerf to those healing setups that premades were using. But people complained and it was reverted.

They're also nerfing SDOs into a Science Team equivalent heal as well.

So they are listening to some of the feedback. They don't always do the right thing though.

It's way better than it was a year ago.

And yes the mods are more tolerant. I still remember all of the bans that happened so frequently.

First of all, this is highly unfair. Bort has made a lot of changes/fixes based on player feedback. Feedback he got here. Polaron procs, phaser procs, mines, siphons++ and more are in the pipeline. Sure he doesn't always succeed, but at least he listnes to us!

Secondly, he has earned respect by showing us respect. He has earned it by taking our advice and presenting it to the rest of his team. Do you think it's easy to get permission to start tinkering with the game's underlying mechanics, based on the request of a few vocal PvPers?

Thirdly, remember what you said here, the day he gets fed up with the raging and whining, and leaves us to shout at each other with no dev besides the moderators to listen. Wich is about as productive as shouting in space, as far as making STO better goes! (and about as healthy as shouting in space without a space suit, as far as forum longevit goes)

Yes. If it wasn't easy, the game balance would not have deteriorated as much as it did.

Oh. You mean sensible mechanics changes? Yeah, that's almost impossible.

Sorry, all. I need to close this thread down because of the extreme amount of forum rules that are being broken in it. I know the OP meant well, and wanted it to go in a different direction, but it can't stay. Also, discussing moderation is a good way to get yourself banned. ~BranFlakes
