Dilithium vs low level

glorthoxglorthox Member Posts: 0 Arc User
I think dilithium for lower levels is a joke. They need to bring back the exploration marks so that low levels will have an easier time getting the necessary gear to continue their missions. Dilithium as a currency is a good idea but for higher levels, not for lower levels. The dev's really need to look at this. Back before it was dilithium people would grind clusters for marks to trade in towards weapons and other gear so that they weren't so vulnerable during missions.

Go play some missions. All the gear you get from episodes is more than capable of carrying you to end game. I can do that with a new toon without getting blown up once. There is alot of SET GEAR in episodes also. Breen set, Jem'hadar set, Reman set,
not to mention items like, Harpeng torpedo, Plasma-disruptor beams and cannons to name a few.

that and you can get from 1 to 50 in only a few days.....its so freaking easy to get to 50....heck, i didnt even start doing th story mission until i was already lvl 30 ....which i got to simply by running patrols, dailies, and borg/starbase actions.

White gear plus whatever gear drops you get during missions will carry you all the way through to 50 at which time you will need a LOT of dilithium to get the ships and gear that you want.

    Start saving early.

Don't let my forum rank fool you, I've been on this game since beta. Had to buy another copy of the game since i have my original to a friend. But with everything costing dilithium and it costing large amounts. A second form of currency for lower levels would be nice. Being forced to run the same story missions over and over for gear upgrades is very lame. But of course I already have 2 vice admirals already geared up. This is just the first time I have leveled a character in a while and noticed some things that didn't make any sense. Shuttles are junk unless you spend actual money or get about 100k dilithium. I just wish the dev's cared more. If it was my game I would have marks of exploration for levels LT-lower admiral. And dilithium for higher. And this is what I would do for extra incentive.....

    Romulan playable faction- gold membership

    Cardassian playable faction- gold membership

    Breen playable faction- gold membership

    Borg- Lifetime membership

Its incentive like that where people would actually pay to play something. Spending money on lockbox keys are kinda lame.

I leveled a new engineer on KDF side with just white gear from the shipyard vendor. Did just fine. Didn't have to repeat a single mission for gear. I didn't spend a single unit of dilithium either. In fact, I had about 80K dilhtium by the time I hit 50, and I had even donated some to the starbase sink. Even started running STFs with just white gear until I got enough salvage to upgrade to mark XI purples. It is absolutely not necessary to have purple gear while leveling up. Best part about buying white gear is that you can sell it when you are done with it as it is not bound.

Why do you need a shuttle while leveling? There are only a total of 2 missions that use them. And 1 of them you don't have access to until you are at higher levels anyway.

Well for the shuttle missions, you either do them, or go run a bunch of nebulas to get that level to move on in missions. And the shuttle that they give you is junk and the runabouts aren't any better. The problem I have is that most missions the other faction seems to have way more firepower than you do. When you spend money or large amounts of dilithium for ship upgrades and ships aren't that powerful then whats the point in spending the money? Or you get the elite MK XII gear and it still doesnt matter when fighting the borg. Whether its ships or ground the borg eat through your shield like its butter. On ground missions they one shot your shields and 75% of your life. So like everything in this game, whats the point in getting set items that aren't any better than the regular ones. But a person having an opinion on a game seems to bring all the lemmings to poke fun at all the people who see something wrong with games.

Well, there is always EC. If one isn't too choosy about the type of gear, it's dirt cheap on the exchange, a lot of times below vendor value. With the lockbox revamp and tholian event loot there is even quite a large number of affordable low-level purples around (deflectors, armour, pol. disruptors, space suits, shields etc...).

Full agreement as I've done this for numerous toons. Standard gear is more than powerful enough to level. Considering that you can level so fast, why on Earth would people want to spend dilithium on something that becomes obsolete in mere hours? Maybe a playing style change is needed?
