Should I spend prototype tech before Season 7?

So, I have been gone from this game for months and I have been reading a bit about season seven.
With the new conversion, I am wondering what it would be prudent to spend and what to keep.
I have one prototype tech (I was working on unlocking my second set) and a bunch of rare and common tech, plus about fifty prototype Borg salvage.
I am assuming that I should buy the prototype Omega weapon and leave everything else for the conversion process? Or am I being foolish?
