I'm still waiting to see more of this reputation stuff on Tribble. From what I've seen so far however it's just a copy/paste job of the fleet grind. Given the 70+ pages of grief generated by the blog the other day, I'd really hope that Cryptic takes the hint and rethinks this entire reputation approach before pushing it to live.
I'm sorry, but the reputation system seems completely backwards to me, you've isolated the reputation system from the missions.
You should be earning xp FOR DOING THE MISSIONS and not forced to spend time and resources leveling it separately. The fleet system may work for DOFFs or the fleet missions but you're actually separating the game play from the rewards here... it doesn't make sense.
Why take marks, use them for projects, and use projects to make XP? It's still stupidly complicated compared to what it should be.
The only reason to structure the system this way is to slow the release of content over time. It works in large group projects, but in this case you're intentionally slowing individual player's progress, and I cant think of a single good reason to do that. If we want to grind STFs and Romulan space there should be no reason to prevent it.
The system works for hands off activities, but not something the player will be interacting with on a regular basis. Please, reconsider.
Is there going to be any way to respec the Reputation rewards choices? Powers, especially new powers, see a lot of revisions around here and I wouldn't be surprised if we'll eventually get stuck with powers that have changed and are no longer what we want.
Or is it going to be like the trait respec that everyone's been asking for since launch, but we've still failed to receive.

"and the final click power that boosts all of your science stats by 100 for 5 seconds"
seriously guys STOP it with the 5 Second buffs
you can scratch off 1 - 2 seconds of that for latency alone, 1 more for moving the mouse to the next button and 3 seconds for activating the first power that gets buffed by this and SWOOP your buff has expired before you even fired a shot.
come on, minimum for anything should be 10 - 15 seconds.
This actually sounds like an interesting system that continues to expand on the idea of end-game really being the start of a long progression.
The idea that your captain will never fully max out all possible gear, reputation, skills, etc. really makes a lot of sense, and I think adds to the draw of returning to play.
On the down side, it means that you don't get to max out your captain in every conceivable way, and this irritates a lot of players. Of course then people get bored once they max everything out and complain that there's nothing to do. So it's kind of a lose-lose scenario.
Unfortunately any long-term change to a game that takes something that was easy and makes it more difficult will create a maelstrom of discontent, but I think it's a worthy trade-off if you get a more interesting system as a result.
I think the only real issue here is resource quantity needed to play through the system. If it is too high then it will seriously discourage players from starting up or working on alts, and indications are this may be the case with the current design.
Somebody could go a long way towards making players happier by cutting dilithium costs on this system by say 20% before it goes live. The system progression is still there and players will feel like at least some of their concerns have been heard.
yes, if you see that way, this is a great system, what can be expanded easily. but all is see, is an opportunity to drain players' dilithium. as i see now, you have to deposit dili to make projects and increase your reputation, unlock items, than you have to pay dilithium to get the gear you want. that is just unfair. you have to pay twice, for one gear. the fair procedure would be to pay dili to unlock the item, and buy it with marks, or vice versa. or make the whole system dili-cheaper. i don't want to spend thousands of hundreds of dilithium, to get some ****ty gear i will never use, and some passive abilities.

Sorry, I feel a need to clarify WHY I think the system is a terrible idea and not just blurt like I did when I first read the post.
My biggest concern is that these changes is that it removes any incentives for playing the STFs. Once a player has the nessisary marks to start a reputation 'mission' theres no reason to play again or put in an extra effort.
Granted, there is dilithium and gear rewards, but they've NEVER been a proper incentive. Lets face it, almost everything rewards dilithium and there's a daily limit and you would be hard pressed to find ANY gear that would sell for much more then it's vendor cost on the exchange unless it's MKXII purple. It's turning the missions from repeatable mission, chance of reward to: Show up, do forced grind, pick up reward at end of the week.
Your odds of picking up something good may SUCK with the current system but there's no limit to how much, or little, effort you can put in. If I wanted to spend 3 days straight trying to get a MKXII drop I could, the new system prevents that.
In addition, the missions them selves are going to have an extra cost... which is an extra cost that we have to deal with in addition to the Starbase and Embassy expenses going on in the fleets.
This is the same reason I HATED the S6 content released for the starbases. Instead of offering rewards for doing the new missions, they were introduced as a forced grind required to do the starbase projects. They may be entertaining, but when all the projects are filled when I get on... there's no reason for me to play them. I've played consistantly since STO was released and I have to say, I really had no interest in the new content with S6 because of this.
I dont enjoy running around looking for what is essentially 'Vendor trash' or wasting my time and EDCs trying to get the proper DOFFs from the exchange when I cant get them from recruitment missions. It's not why I play the game. I find it insulting that after running the STFs since before there was a borg set to get, it'll be FORCED to deal with it in order to have access to the endgame loot. It wont matter how many runs I do, or how effective I am, I didnt file the paperwork so no one cares.
Even from a Fluff perspective this system makes no sense to me. I find it extremely strange to think that destroying entire borg and/or tholian fleets has no effect on my standing but sending someone to show off a shiney peice of metal does? Really?
I know the architecture is convienent, pre built from the DOFF and Starbase system, but if the current version of the reputation system gets implemented it'll completely kill the game for me. I'm not going to bother playing when EVERY end game system is time sensitive and I'm required to collect trivial things to progress with. I'm ok doing that with the DOFFs and the starbase, I dont need to do that for every mission.
There are better ways to implement the system then slapping a pre-existing system on top and calling it progress. I'm honestly not sure why you wouldn't reward Reputation after completing an STF or Romulan event. At least people could get credit and progress for completing the content and not be limited by what projects they're running. You could still give some XP for completing projects, but dont make it the primary (and definately not the ONLY) way of progressing.
since every borg-ish missions will reward the same omega marks, and every elite STF's reward the same neural processors (or whatever), i fear the STF player amount will greatly decrease. in addition, "easier" STF's will became unnaturally popular, like ISE, or KAGE, and the harder ones, like IGE or CSE will be almost empty. and that makes me sad. by wearing these prestige sets, like MACO and HG, you say about yourself "yes, i completed lots of various and difficult missions, so i rewarded whit this outfit". by the new system, you might say "yes, i farmed out tonns of dili and marks by running only the easy missions"

Its better than nothing new at all which was pretty much the year of 2011. Plus I really like the idea and you are gaining xp from doing the missions like it keeps being said thats where you take that xp which is marks and putting it toward achieving a goal. Help the Romulans, Alpha Quadrants fight against the borg, or the invasion of your Starbase and you are getting everything that everyone is saying that is not what it is. When in reality its just how you look at it.
I would presume though that as you go up you would unlock part of a story to it all though. That would be the only downside is if there was nothing that you unlock that tells a story. Otherwise its just about higher stats to try to enjoy it at a faster or easier pace.
I've been trying to stay positive and constructive with my posts, but this one will sit on the line.
+100 sci stats for 5 seconds... what a fat lot of good that will do me... Between having to click the powers 3 or 4 times just to get them to activate or having them fire off like 5 seconds after I clicked them... it is useless. Fix the UI lag first please then introduce stuff that requires excellent timing.

Here's my question. I like playing with my friends. Some of my friends only hop on once a week when we all play together.
So how is this reputation thing going to jive with that? Specifically, the special instances on New Romulus. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for restricted areas that you have to open up, but I want to play with my friends and help them (and me) earn Romulan Marks together.
I mean, Defera (on the Omega side) encourages/requires team play with the medium and hard missions in each section.
Teams. They're cool.

I have been consistently play sto for awhile it's time for fleet's with klingon elements to be able to freely cross team with their fed fleets on team invite instead of the current way team invite for instance's should be the same as if you were all fed or all klingon if in the same fleet base and the sever issue's keep getting worse and worse on fed and the klingon side it is slowly breaking down due to all the attention going to fed at this time the other thing is with all this dilithum hungry stuff it's time for a percentange increase in dilithum rewards
see what happens in the universe thanks
that is a fair amount of dil for some skills... at least the passives are cool, and the Omega T5 active team heal/revive sounds very useful. but still, it's at least 80k dil, a lots of time, and you didn't get any gear from the system by that price, i hear they will cost a lot. i've got 3 chars now, one with full space/ground sets, one with only 1 missing piece in ground, but the third have no STF gear at all. to bring them to Tier5 costs at least 240k++ dil what is a stunningly great number... and it's only the omega reputation. brace yourself, heavy grinding is coming.
thanks 4 the info by the way.

any info on prizes? someone said 80k dill for 1.st tier stuff - for ONE weapon there?
as i know them, they like it geometric, so that would make... too drunk to count.
Ok, so when is the Season 7 gonna hit and when do we get a playable Romulan faction?
This new colony are just a few separatists weak in their minds - cause as we know the new homeworld is on Rator III.
Reputation system - i like it. It is a good idea, albeit the "projects" can be a little annoying and will become even more annoying when there will be no "get them for free" doffs from the academy missions.. as i have read somewhere on this forum today (announcements)
Hmm I hope there will be unlockable space abilites for my captain too. I don't care much about ground combat. Rifles, ground escorts, AoE ground heal... I hope it's not ALL ground.

Agreed, it's probably got a stupidly long cooldown as well.

Although this Blog was posted by Mr Ricossa, Jr., I think it should be the Captain of the ship: Mr Stahl, who responds to comments.
Please people keep things civil if you want to receive any kind of feedback response.
And no I don't work for Cryptic now - lol - as some people have claimed over the last few days.

Don't worry Levi3, there are some of us that do enjoy your activism.
As for the reputation system, I'll stick with being "curious" about how it plays out and how future seasons weave around these recent system changes.

Season 7: New Romulus
Why?
I mean that seriously, where's the reasoning behind the request (other than, understandably, for PVPers to get something)
That said bung some omega marks in Kerrat would make some sense and give the PVPers...something.
That was confirmed a few days back by Branflakes elsewhere (
Realized I had no constructive criticism nor a positive response to the blog.

The costs of leveling in the rep system are cheap enough from the looks of things, but actually buying gear will be a whole other ballgame.
do you know exactly, how much dil one will need to reach Tier5 (if we don't count any gear buying)?

Bear in mind it's a minimum 2 month grind due to the 40 hour completion time of each project.
