Have they completely forgotten about the crafting system?

Remember when they were actually talking about revamping crafting? What happened?

They have not forgotten about it, but it is highly likely that it will be updated and put into the rep system...

I'd really like to see a revamp (again?) to the crafting system. I mean, really, you dump all that dilithium into crafting and you cant even make MKXII gear. Make it kind of pointless if you ask me.

Except that makes no sense. How well you can craft has nothing to do with how the Romulans or Borg view your reputation. I'm hoping they incorporate it into the doff system, which actually makes sense. Captains arent the one crafting items on their ships, the crew members are.

They could still do some cool stuff with 'reputation-crafting'.

Like, you give the Romulans an Beam-Blueprint, 100 rom-marks and energy. -> They make you a nice Plasma-Beam in 1 day.

If your talking about some Rom specific item, then yes that makes sense. But when it comes to the standard Fed items, that should have nothing to do with Rom reputation in any way.

Yes, they could make an "Starfleet Corps of Engineers" reputation for that. (for the Klingons: "Order of the Empire Smiths" or whatever :-D)

They better NOT put the crafting system into the rep system, I've put 500K+ dilith already into that system to get my crafting abilities levelled up, and to ask me to pay MORE dilith to regain the ability I already paid for is BEYOND unreasonable.

Cryptic would rather see us buying weapons for dilithium or even zen and not player made stuff. They'll probably add a dilithium component to all crafting.

I really like that idea. Ties in with the reputation system and sticks with Star Trek cannon. Each faction be limited to build specific types ( fed phasers / klin disrupters ). Perhaps mix in the odd types with them as well.

Make crafting relevant again. Very low percentage can crit for a slightly better stat then the rewarded items.

Yeah, it doesn't in the sense of Romulan and Omega, but there is nothing stopping them from creating a crafting type reputation ;)

Instead of the usual commodities and dilithium in the projects, we will use samples, traces and unreplicatable materials .

That or they could come up with an entirely new system, but that would also affect all the fleet system and doffing. It is more likely the will keep the traces and samples as is..

I think the consensus understanding is that they'll modify the DOFF assignment system to work for crafting. All you'd really need is a way to simplify the process of having various inputs result in different outputs.

Unless the crafting system let me chooses what modifiers I want it will be pointless.
Ideally it would also let me combine existing items to create a new one where i can chose what properties of the exiting items i want the end product to have. From looks, icon to set bonus and so on.

The sad fact is that the crafting system could have been amazingly well done and even opened up potential revenue for cryptic but they just added a dil tax and forgot about it sadly. Just a few off top of head ideas they could use:

    1) upgrading episode special items/sets like jem set etc
    2) custom hybrid weapons
    3) pick 1/2 mods and randomize the remainder. Like an [acc]x2 +1 random
    4) hybrid consoles

Those are just a few ideas off the top of my head.
