Do you know... lol, I've even become tempted (due to being so undecided), to buy the ship for 500 from the original series that kirk used, and use the rest of the zen to get character slots and perhaps a fed klingon LOL,

like I said though, there's another area for that discussion.

I gave a reply to your other thread. First things first, how much Zen do you currently have?

    Thats important to know.

Also though the TOS Enterprise is nice to have, its merely a Lt Vessel - a starter ship.

I would say try to go forward to a better and max level ship, that is a tier 5 vessel if you can afford the Zen.

Buy things that will benefit you now and help to further your ingame currency. See my response to your other thread.

Build upon each of your success.

    Alrighty, well, Greetings all,

I'm still fairly new to star trek online. I have 4 characters, 3 are level 50, so I do know some things, yet not as much as the experienced ones here, and it is your advice I am seeking:

I've bought some zen, and yet I don't have money enough to get zen frequently, so this is why I am asking this question:

Which Federation Ship is the Best ship to buy with zen, in your opinion and why?

I've been looking at the Dreadnought Cruiser for some time now, that looks to me like a tough ship, it seems it can load heavy dual cannons, I like that idea, to be able to use a cruiser which also fires cannons, would be an asset indeed.

It seems to have a cloak as well, though I do not think it has "battle cloak". It has a "spinal" thingy too, I'm not sure what that is for, unless more powerful phaser fire?

So that's the one ship I'm thinking of getting, yet there's also the Exploration Cruiser Retrofit, I like the idea that it can seperate the saucer section , yet I don't think it would be as powerful as the Dreadnought.

Anyhow yea, please, if anyone can give me their thoughts, I'd appreciate it, which "zen" federation ship? and why?

Even if the ship you suggest is not the dreadnought or exploration retrofit, thats cool too, I'd like to hear all ideas.

(oh and just to confirm , when you buy a ship with zen its unlocked for all current and future fed characters correct?)

    Thanks, live long and Prosper!

I read through and have seen the suggestions so here is my opinion.

The Oddy: I have the 3 pack and I found the bonuses from the consoles arent as good as an rcs accellerator and a neutronum armor. the saucer seperation is nice but I have stopped using it since I run beam arrays and have the 180 degree quantum and those ferengi missles.

If you have to only get one oddy I would suggest the sci oddy since it comes with sensor analysis AND worker bees (where as the other oddys just have a console more bang for the buck). And since it has universal Boff slots its more versitile than any other fed cruiser.

The dreadnought is very useable but only in a limited build zone so it really fits a small niche of gameplay only. http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=285491

As many have said the exploration cruiser is a waste of time unless you want to roleplay. It can be made useable but is subpar compared to most everything else.

As for the escorts...eh The armitage is probably the most stand out since the free one are just as effective. Altho having gravity well on an escort is a good reason to go MVAM.

The excelsior is also a nice choice if only for the ability to transwarp anywhere. and isnt too much of a departure from a standard cruiser so most builds can still be used.

What have you been using up untill now? And if you have been using more than one type, Which was your favorite?

If you want a good Cruiser try the advanced heavy cruiser retrofit, can't go wrong with the Excelsior.

Any of the Odyssey variants are also good, but they're only real good if you get the 3 pack for the console set bonus as that helps to offset the slow turn rate.

    Good cruiser advice there

However I recommend you wait until season 7 hits
And see if you like it before you lay out any cash
    To this game

Season 7 could make or Break this game
    Jellico....Engineer ground.....Da'val Romulan space Sci
Saphire.. Science ground......Ko'el Romulan space Tac
    Leva........Tactical ground.....Koj Romulan space Eng

JJ-Verse will never be Canon or considered Lore...It will always be JJ-Verse

Thank you once again Stark2K for the info. :)

I just signed into STO and went to the exchange, but I only saw items, no ships, unless I need to type in the class of ship in
    the search space?

I am quite interested in what you said about the " Prometheus Class ", how it splits, because that was one of the things I liked about the idea of perhaps buying the Enterprise vice admiral ship that splits.

Also the info about the science class vessels, much appreciated as well !

Though my favorite character (so far I have 2 of them) is a science officer (I also presently have 1 tactical fed officer and one klingon <--(obviously kdf~)

Anyhow I still find it difficult to decide what my favorite ship is to use, for example , I bought a while back using crystals, the level 30 "free" version of the voyager ship, now that one, I found fun to use, its size is greater than the defiant, and though it doesn't use cannons, the science bridge officer abilities help in a fight quite well I find. There was a time, before using the escorts, where I luved that ship so much that I used it and only it for my stf missions.

Well, time for me to log off of here and get my duty officers off to their assignments, and then do some stf missions while I try and figure out what to decide.

You know, Stark2K, I'd be interested to know , what your opinion is on my other question which is : wether I ought to use the zen to get , other things instead of a ship.

I got 1500 zen right now, so if I go for a ship, I will have to work on these stf's to exchange crystal for
zen , or I could do somthing such as , get character slots and somthing else such as kirk's ship and a costume or a klingon fed character.

Anyhow, my reasons for not knowing what to do is , I do not know when next I will be able to afford zen, so I want to spend wisely, and I'm pretty tired of stf's lol.

I tell you this much though, I'm impressed by this game. To me, it is a whole new universe to exist in, which gives me hope for mankinds possible future of what might be.

I never use to be such a fan , yet this game has turned me into one and if I could, I would totally pay for a life time subscription.

Well, offline here and on to the game.

    Live long and prosper

Thank you all as well, as to answer your question disposeableh3r0

the ship I am using lately are the escorts, mostly cause of their weapons.

As I said in a recent post a moment ago, I like the cruisers, and science vessels and escorts lol agggghhh!

    So I really don't know.

I just signed into STO and went to the exchange, but I only saw items, no ships, unless I need to type in the class of ship in the search space?

    Tips on search method:

Be selective in your search: Recommend "Reward Pack" tab under Lock box key tab or lock box tab

Any ship that can be sold on the exchange is inside a box - so its a matter of how to navigate the search engine of the exchange.

If you select the All tab (which is bugged) - it tends to give you the highest and costly items in terms of price.

make sure all your search tabs are set at "any"

then go down through all the search tabs on the side:

    seek "Reward packs"

    Type:

    Mirror universe

    or

Deep science vessel or something related to ship

If you are still having difficulty seeking an MU, PM me ingame - Prof. Albert Einstein@BlackV7

I am usually online from 10am U.S. Eastern time to about 3 or 4PM U.S. Eastern - who knows I might have a free MU box laying around my bank that I don't use. I have to check.

And dracounguis , you said "If you have 70-80 million EC there are good ships on the Exchange.", I was not aware that you could buy ships through the exchange... I always thought you could just trade zen for crystals and vis-versa...?

I'm also unsure as to what "EC" are, is it a fleet thing?

Look under Reward Packs on exchange, and Very Rare. Pretty much all the lockbox ships are there for a price. If you want a 'bargain' ship look for Mirror Universe under Rare quality. They are at same level as the basic Tier 5 ships w/ a couple minor differences. But will cost you only ~100k energy credits (instead of the 200k dilthium of the ones at the shipyard vendor)

    When in Reward Pack
Set Rarity to Very Rare and try keywords to search: kora, carrier, orb, jem, galor, freighter, science
if you set rarity to Rare, just put in 'mirror' for the mirror universe ships
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

I'm probably going to wait for the Vesta ( see that one's specs first ) before deciding . From what I have read it could very well be the Vesta will be another 3-ship bundle as well.

Problem is STO is ruled by the escorts. Fleet actions are mainly for them.

My personal favorite is the Armitage loaded up with phaser beam arrays as a mini-tank and runabouts instead of fighters. Good turn rate and not limited by the firing arc of cannons. I have one quantum torpedo front and one back and use the photon spam console (can't remember the name right now).

Edit: I tried using the Armitage as a torpedo boat but found that, at least for my playing style, it just didn't turn fast enough to bring them to bear.

But man that's the thing I have a catian carrier and I want a fast ship but I like ships that cloak and the dread has a nice phaser lance and defiant has only seven wepons so I'm just stuck guys
