Pixel shader compilation warning

edited February 2015 in Tribble - Bug Reports
I've only seen this since the first S7 patch on Tribble (doesn't happen on Holodeck), and ironically, performance is noticeably better on tribble, in terms of much less "culling" of GFX in intensive scenes, more constant framerates etc etc

before I post the error, my specs are as follows;

AMD 1090t OC to 4.2GHz
1TB western digital black HDD
8GB gSkill RAM
nVidia GTX580 (1.5GB model by Inno3D, running drivers 306.97 WHQL)

running at 1080p, with most settings at max, except for things like physical debris amounts (around 50), bloom around 200% things like that. Nearly everything else is at max, and I am rendering in DX11

clicky

Apologies if this has already been posted before,

Many thanks in advance

Same here amd 7970 with latest drivers. Also sometimes some textures like uniforms dont load and look blurry ,other times uniforms are fine but things in the world (rocks ,ground ,bridge on new romulus ) have blurry textures like low quality. This change every time I load the game so I cant find what can cause that because it never happens on holodeck .

I tried on dx9 and dx11 mode and it doesnt seem to be caused by that.

While you are at it please fix the graphics errors that others and myself are getting. With the graphics card drivers crashing and then freezing our computers. This makes the game totally unplayable.

When I asked, they said Zero had already filed a bug with them. That's the last I heard.

Yes I just notice it a few days ago on live when I log on in the Loading screen it tells me pixel compilation failed. Only problem I've notice since that appeared is when I beam into my fleet starbase the Ops Deck is completely dark can't see anything I came barely see a few ft from my character. But if I take the turbo lift to say the Tac Sci or Engi decks I can see perfectly.

On Tribble same problem how ever it's when I beam in "Into The Hive" can't see we're I'm going so I was useless to the team ;(. Hope I don't have the same problem when it goes to live this week.

    @taco,

just to let you know this has now transferred to holodeck with the s7 build, and the build from yesterday also has it, exact same message,

    also, could you tell the ships guys if they don't know, that the borg tac cubes have loads of black or missing textures in dx11 :);
    clicky

Tac cubes are fine ,problem is that textures are not loading or if you get them they are in low quality.

I'm also getting this error on holodeck now, with a similar spec and config to the OP. I'm using DX11 with a GTX 480 and latest drivers.

EDIT: Noticing a few missing textures that appear only on mouse over.

Yeah I just filed a ticket tonight, had this issue and now half of my ships are covered in black boxes. Particularly noticeable on the Vo'Quv Carrier. Rather annoying... and to top it off since it started I've been having a ton of time out errors. Reinstalled didn't help at all, might've made it worse even.

This has been an ongoing issue for the last few months. I get this error all the time but it doesn't compromise my gameplay. I get a lot of missing textures while playing I've kinda learned to just deal with it. The graphics engine is in need of a serious overhaul and better support for DX 11. I switched to DX 11 because the missing textures were worse on DX 9. I believe a lot of is due to GFX card manufactures not developing drivers really to help DX 9 anymore. Since STO is mainly DX 9 we will continue to see this issue until we get a more polished DX 11 engine. Also there is no difference between the DX9 and DX11 (beta). I think it is just a different type of coding that newer cards can interpret easier. If you have a newer card ie GTX 4-6 series and ATI 7-8 series put the game into DX11 (beta) it helps with the missing textures.

To the Devs I know you have a lot on your plate with new content upcoming and other bugs. Can we get better DX11 support? This game would look amazing on a fully integrated DX11 option taking advantage of tesselation and other features DX11 offers.

    System Specs as follows:

    Windows 8 Pro x64
    Intel Core i7 980X oc'd to 4.4 GHz
    2x GTX 580 SLI
    6GB Corsair Dominator RAM
    EVGA Classified 3 X58 MB
    Corsair AX 1200w PSU

NOTE: Current Nvidia 310 drivers are not playing nice I rolled back to 306.97

I get this shader warning too, at the game loading screen. And yes, there are missing textures on many ship skins (sometimes more, sometimes less)... but it's mostly noticeable on borg ships (cubes, tac cubes, command vessels) because the surfaces are bigger.

    My hardware specs:

    Windows 7 64bit
    Intel C2D E 8400 (2x3.0 GHz)
GeForce GTX 460 (running STO in DX 11 mode)
    4 GB DDR 2-800 Ram

Just to keep this alive, this error is still present in current build for folks wanting to use dx11 for its efficiency. Let's hope this is fixed for the xpack. :-/

Potentially useful note: for those of us getting this error, the game appears to create a failed_shader_0.txt file in the Localdata subdirectory, containing what I believe is the code for the shader that's failing to compile and thus producing this error.

Might be useful forwarding the file to tech support, so I'm gonna do that now.

i got this error on start up a while back.

I was messing with options and clicked the DX 11 one. *

****in the options screen the information for this video setting is so truncated that you cant tell if you are set to DX9 or DX11 anyway ****

When I restarted the game so the options would take effect I got a "Pixel Shader" error message at the bottom of the log in screen

And generally, It seemed to me that the game was deciding what my video settings should be and most options seemed to do nothing. Quality was stuck at a certain point. My card was bought to play the newer graphics intensive games like Skyrim so it should be able to handle STO. I could pretty much play on extremely high settings on 2 other lesser cards. But now the game seems to have decided that my card is crappy and just kind of sticks on those settings.

I'm getting the same problem. Pixel shader error. I have a AMD 7850 with newest drivers. All my other MMO's and FPS games like Skyrim are maxed settings and look awesome. No graphic problems of any kind. But this pixel shader error has been going for quite some time. I'd really apprecaite it if someone can fix the error. If not, call someone who can. Thanks.
    And I'm old, not dead.

I am also getting the poxel shader warning. GTS250, win7 64bit, 8GB ram It started after the delta rising expansion, also, there is lots of chop in areas where I have a view of several players at once (I think thats the pattern anyways). This also started after the delta rising update.

    anything new about this problem?
I also get the pixel shader stuff + I can no longer use any AA (not via ingame setting and now by forcing it through the catalyst settings)

the game looks like playing a 15 year old game on my radeon r9 280x
Originally i thought its because of the latest omega drivers but also completely deinstalling them and installing the original drivers did not solve the problems

    graphicerror1.jpg
    graphicerror2.jpg

so with other words... pretty much since DR there is this pixelshader TRIBBLE and no working MSAA anymore
it does not matter if I try it with dx9 or dx11 settings... there is absolutely no difference

Something very similar to this is happening on Holodeck as well. http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?p=22008811#post22008811

I don't think it is a DX9 vs. DX11 thing. I think it is just bad coding.
