Why do you want an Romulan faction? Cryptic is already devoting to much resources for the minimal Klingon faction. Resources which would better be spend on more Fed AWESOMENESS!!!
No, really... Cryptic doesn't have the manpower to flash out 2 factions. And you want 3?... Oh my
The real question is what would make you happiest:
1) Romulan colony with reputation points that eventually allow you to play Rommies as KDF/FED.
2) Push a half finished Romulan faction out similar to how they did the Klingons, re-using a lot of the maps and characters already in the game to save time.
3) Wait three years for them to build a Romulan faction.
I bet right now the recent survey results have convinced Cryptic #3 isn't an option and are looking at either #1 or #2.

i vote for option 2, option 1 would take too long!
Manpower has supposedly doubled since then, although I guess the real question is thus, "how much manpower is devoted to STO"?
Even if STO went from 20 people to 40 in the last 6 months the results would unlikely to be apparent for awhile, perhaps we will see during S8 and S9?
If they can make enough money ideally STO should have 3 full factions, but is Cryptic aiming that high in the medium to long term?
You also need enough people to fill those factions.
I find KDF becoming available from level 1 a higher priority, because that is the reason Fed will always have more players, because by the time KDF becomes available, most people don't bother because they have already invested a lot in their Fed, there are exceptions, but not very numerous.
Give me option 1 now and work on option 3 after the KDF is finished.
There are going to be a lot of Romulan fans upset over what is going on. They will cry that playble Romulans beat out more KDF content in that poll and we get this?!?! You should have read what wasn't there before voting. It said Playable Romulans, not Playable Romulan Faction. So think about that when you wonder why Cryptic is not giving the players what they want.
I would like to come back to star trek online one day, because I have always been a star trek fan, but this is just too disgusting to behold. Its clear from their actions with this new Romulous, that they are indeed going to turn the Romulans into a race, that serves ether the Feds or the Klingons. I do not know, nor do I understand, why the destruction of Romulous means that all the Romulan fleets just vanished. Yes I know the Klingons hit them hard, but it would not mean the Romulan Military would just be push overs now. I think this is fatal flaw in their thinking.
When I saw the picture of that new klingon ship, the first thought that came to mind was, it looks Romulan. I do hope someone can put a clamp on perfectworld/cryptic before they destroy whats left of the Star Trek Universe. Making the Romulans appear week is a insult to star trek lore. I dont see now how I could ever justify returning.
As for the game if they stopped charging for every new good item, if they built two complete factions, and then did a episode run on the rebuilding of not just a Romulan Home world. Rather the rebuilding of a Romulan Empire. This would be more Star Trek. In case some have forgotten there still is the case of the missing Romulan Emperor, no not sela, the one that is hidden away on a unknown ship. Not sure why they are not using that story line. You can dismiss me as a troll, but ive been watching, and at times playing sto sense 2008. This game is hardly going in the right direction. Then again these are the thoughts of one star trek fan.

By actually building these factions one would hope with marketing and word of mouth we would see old players and new come back to STO.
Yes I am in agreement about the KDF for sure, and I sincerely hope S8 will be the time it is done as it is long overdue (although I understand the reasons it hasn't yet).
Ideally the 3 full factions should be in game to coincide withe the next Star Trek movie release, but I would not hold my breath for that .

Isn't it kinda necessary to Star Trek lore?
Look at what Praxis did to the Klingons.
Now, look at what happened with the Romulans. If they JUST lost Remus, it would be a Praxis event. They lost Remus, Romulus, and a bunch of other vital planets.
I'm not saying they could never get stronger again, either.
One option I can see with the embassy route.
You unlock playable Romulans/Remans in the KDF. At this point in the story, all is mostly lost.
But when you play your Romulan, you start getting side missions with the option to report to a Tal Shiar rep about what you're seeing.
And then three years from now, when a Romulan faction could be finished, all those Starfleet and KDF Romulans get the option to defect back, taking whatever they got with them.
What this does is ensure that when and if a Romulan faction does launch, it has healthier player numbers.

sorry but i will never before a romulan fed or kdf and really alot of what your saying is wishful thinking seeing what they have dun with the KDF in almost 3 year dont hold your breath they will be much better 3 years from now

Well, I'd be fine with no Romulan faction ever if Cryptic would have the cojones to say it's unrealistic.
I'm just saying that Fed/KDF Romulans doesn't rule one out and could be used as a pilot program to make sure there are more Romulan players than there have been KDF.
You start off allowing Fed and KDF Romulans and build buzz by having extra content.
Then when and IF you launch a faction, you allow people to start as Romulan AND you allow KDF/Fed Romulans to defect back.
If you did that, you'd have a healthier Romulan faction than the KDF has ever been, even if it's no better supported than the KDF. Because Romulans would have 3 advancement tracks.

there is a more easy way to do that a Poll and not a half baked poll like the one they do here on the Forums one that shows up on the launcher or ingame also so make sure the same IP can not vote more then one
also if they do fed kdf romulan good luck waiting for it to ever become a full faction because to me that is cryptic way of saying we just cant do it so soon after you get your shortcut romulan soon we will give you romulan ships in our new upcoming lockbox romulan theme only seeing how much player from the forums want them we will make it a 0.0001 chance of droping of geting say ship the big dog will be 1k lobi
Yeah Cool. Now that that's over and done with .... lets talk about the Ferengi faction.
this made me fall out my set rofl lmao
but you already have as close to that as you will get you have the ship you can play them as a Fed not sure about KDF only remember Feds because they where or still are on the Cstore

Yeah I have a Ferengi Alt in a D'Kora fitted will all the Lobi gear. Sigh~ its just not the same as a Ferengi faction though.
And for all we know, manpower doubled to work on the mobile HTML 5 site, which will be a template used for other games.
Yes its likely they may have hired people someone to do this, but its just as likely they had the talent already in house, or had someone given the project to do this (and thereby become the talent, this does happen quite a lot). We may never know.
What we do know is the workforce doubled since PWE took over (from their statements), and we know know they were hiring specific people with 3D talent (from the job listings), plus they hired some from a recently defunct, but respected company, so its not all as negative as can be suggested, but it takes awhile for all this to show results we can somewhat measure.
Did the talent get shifted to Neverwinter? Who knows . I feel pretty certain Cryptic/PWE realize how important getting a solid start with good reviews is on release day as it is something you can never fully repeat.
sorry but i will never before a romulan fed or kdf and really alot of what your saying is wishful thinking seeing what they have dun with the KDF in almost 3 year dont hold your breath they will be much better 3 years from now
Most of the years it can be argued STO was on life support, getting by with just enough profits to keep going and in good enough position for Atari to sale off, and this is another point to think about; being put up for sale usually means hiring freeze and the current employees would have to contend with uncertainty.
After PWE acquired Cryptic, and the plans of how to merge were finalized it took another year or so to complete the full merge, which I'd argue wasn't complete until the C-Store became the Zen store (and Cryptic points became Zen points) and our accounts became assimilated as resistance was futile...Which, with positive "wishful" thinking means we still have time to see the KDF finished and the Romulan faction appearing at some points.
Actually this does place much more pressure on Stahl and the Cryptic to produce not only (hopefully) content but decent enough profits. Can the lifetime sub sales/gold memberships and specifically lockboxes remain a cash cow? There will be much less excuse this point forward.
Perhaps we will see other races as mini-factions? Who knows, what do Ferengi's do anyway other than treat the galaxy as a used car lot lol.

how i would do if i was greedy
I think this presupposes that customers know what they want and that you can get a representative sample of them.
Giving people what they want is a recipe for mediocrity.
Listening to people and then giving them what they didn't know they wanted is better, if you have the right team to make it happen.
With all my heart I dream of a romulan Faction - I would abandon all Fed and KDF toons just to be able to play a Faction I love.
Reality: It ain't going to happen, ever.
Starbase investments, Doff configurations and implementations, storyline missions, PvP implementation etc.... these things are too much for the current Dev team to implement while maintaining or enhancing other Faction experience.
To do so would mean halting everything else just to construct the frame work for a Rommie faction.
Here is what I recommend, which was recommended a long time ago, a mini faction with just playable Rommies and remans, their ships (which are already in game) and a small home planet. No missions, just the usual. However; even what I recommend maybe too much.
R.I.P. Romulan Faction
Least give us their ships via lockboxes, and uniforms via Lobi Store

I would agree that if we're ever able to play as a Romulan within a FED or KDF account, then it's pretty much guaranteed that a Romulan faction is lost on us. Likewise, if a Romulan ship appears in a lock box, then again, it's pretty much guaranteed that a Romulan faction is lost on us.
I get that a third faction might not be easily done, but (following a recent poll) it is what most people want. If Cryptic had been smart at the start, they'd have released the game with three factions and built it up from there. But no, they didn't. They started with the Federation (okay, that's understandable, Star Trek is more about the UFP than anything else) then they created a Klingon faction (from level #1) then they went back to working more on the Federation and took away level #1 - level #20/ for the Klingons.
Their logic fails me. It's highly unlikely that we'll see a Romulan faction if either of the two above mentioned items show up. That's the one thing we've got going for ourselves at the moment, there are no Romulan characters/bridge officers/ships. Yet.
Truth is, I feel that STO was incomplete during its launch. Atari and company first mistake was making it a subscription based game, it should have been F2P from the get go. Simply the game was not fully ready and had crude mechanics as well as balance issues. Proof of this was the half baked concoction that we call the KDF.
I admit that they have come along way, but they are now stuck with the errors of development of Season 1 and even Beta. Rumors have it that Beta testers even gave Cryptic inputs on the game, imploring Cryptic not to launch. Cryptic did not listen and lo and behold we got a half baked game. Later on improvements were made and added, but thats after the fact.
Truth is they should have started with a three faction game as per the traditional MMO's nowadays. There was no excuse not to. However; probably due to Atari and a Cryptic rush job, we're stuck with what we got.
yes the game has improved since the Beta and season 1 - BUT at a high cost - The Romulan 3rd faction that many desire is now a literal pipedream.
Cryptic made a statement that they didn't want to see any Rommie ships in a box, but guess what, they might not have a choice. Rommie gear and ships is a lucrative money grabber and they may be forced to plant them in lock boxes and on the Lobi store.
So us Romulans fans now have to bow our heads in disappointment and hope that Cryptic hurry up and place the ships in a lock box - at least give me the honor of commanding a Romulan warbird or a Mogai.
