Well excepet for the trillions the Ferengi have, but I hear a Ferengi commando team is guarding them (In other words a bunch of random Ferengi who steal Vorta prisoners.)
Tier 3 is the most any solo player making a solo Fleet Starbase will get within the shortest period of time possible, that is with time, money, and dedication.
Progressing to Tier 4 or even Tier 5 is insane, and any soloist even attempting to go that far is just for Bragging rights. Its just not worth the time, money, and resources.
If it takes on average and individual 6 to 10hrs a day of non-stop farming and doffing, real money, and sacrifice just to reach tier 3 in the fastest way possible - 2 and 1/2 to 5 months, imagine tier 4 and 5.
Can it be done? Anything can be done, but expect to be at it for at least a year and a 1/2, with non-stop farming etc... You'll burn out before then.

You are 100% correct - the costs from T3 to 4 become staggering then from 4 to 5 is 2x that of T4
example a 1000xp Military assignment:
60 uncommon Security doffs(greens)
140 common Tactical doffs (white)
900 Fleet marks
60 Photon Torp V
20 ferasan nepa Leaves
But it is the Green doff component that gets huge + the 140 commons -
and the fact that you would need to do 49 assignments to hit the 100,000xp mark
Of course you could always go the dilth sink mark and do a 500xp for 54,000 dilth and a few commons
that would take almots 100 missions or 5,400,000 million dilth per section or 16,000,000 dilth to reach tier 4 on all 3 - not including upgrade of another 4 million+
Levi can we see your leaderboard? There will always be people that will claim that this was not a solo effort and the leaderboard will prove that it was.
Im also doing a solo fleet (kdf) and I'm halfway through my third tier 3 class specific upgrade.
Did you do the sci and eng upgrades or just the shipyard to get to the tier 3 SB?
Im not real motivated to get my hand on so many green doffs to move forward myself, but what else is there in game? lol
Also it doesnt take 49 assignments to get to tier 4 if you include the xp you get from the sb and other upgrades to the sb, but that's just splitting hairs I kno.
I can't imagine balancing thirty chars, but then I wouldn't want to :P
I'm also making solo runs (mostly) on two starbases (FED & KDF), and I do plan on getting to T5 eventually, but I'm in no hurry to get there. As for why do it solo? I'm doing it because I want to build stuff. I don't need any other reason but that.
I just finished my transwarp gateway on Monday. I'm not really going to try and hit T2 but I'll slowly grind away at it with my alts. I'm happy knowing I did a T1 solo.

Not true - Military requires - 60 grean T4 - Security doffs (security or assuslt or armory) are hard to come by and they now go for 300k each on the exchange - that is with not a large portion of fleets over T3 - this is a MAJOR stumpling block in T4 military progress if you want to do the 1000xp assignments
There is one thing not show in that list - which made up about a third of the contibution to this effort: My 6 KDF alts - without them there is no way that i could have gotten this done.
The KDF has double the amount of dilth generating methods that the Fed has and this makes them superior to the FED side for collecting resources.
1 toon can collect a 2 million ec a day doffing on top of the 8k dilth - the advatages of having KDF are just that superior to FED
If I was rolling complete KDF starbase i would be half way to Tier 4 by this point!
