Stranded in Space Tactical Accolade

I play a Federation Tactical Officer and I've just come out of the tutorial. I know that the mission Stranded in Space has three accolades associated with it, and I'd like to earn the Tactical Accolade. I know you have to use the plasma conduits to your advantage, and I think I've found the console that allows you to do just that, but the problem is, I can't interact with it. I've tried clicking it and pressing the F button, and my tricorder points towards it, but I can't do anything with it. Is there something I need to do in order to interact with it, or do I have to do something else in order to get the Tactical Accolade?

The trick to get it to work properly is to make sure all team members are in the warp core room before the cutscene with the orions beaming in starts as its activated then.. It can be a tad iffy but that's the best way to get it to work.
