So it has come down to this... (call for sanity)

themariethemarie Member Posts: 1,055 Arc User
Got my new Chimera-class ship this morning... wonderful ship if a bit impractical. Too many moving parts. :D Anyway, flew Azura for a calibration run... then ran a couple of STFs.

Did fantastic on Cure, did pretty good on KA, but then on Infected I was teamed with three other Chimera and a Galaxy-X.

The player running the Galaxy-X went on a tirade about how DARE we claim what we are not entitled to, and the LOYAL 1,000 Day Member ONLY should be able to claim the new ship and HE IS NOT GOING TO PLAY with a bunch of *swear word* that cheapen the reward that rightfully belongs to the 1,000 Day Members.

Then he rage-quit.

Jokes on him, we cleared Infected with 8 min to spare. ;)

Anyway... I've heard of two other "freak outs" from my friends on the various channels.

Has it really come to this? Are we going to have to endure people flipping out over a reward? I mean really... at the end of the day it only exists in the Neighborhood Of Makebelive hosted on the Cryptic servers.

This is a call for sanity, folks. It's just a game. I don't like logging into an STF and being cussed out because I claimed a reward that was due to me. I don't like being cussed out in STFs PERIOD -- but to be chewed out over something I was entitled to?

Some of us need to step back, way back... take a deep breath and calm the heck down.

It is ONLY A GAME.

    Two questions:

How would he know that you're a new lifer?

Did he get his Galaxy-X by recruiting 5 people? Because, if not, pot meet kettle.

    Both valid points!

I remember buying my Galaxy-X, and being told my members of my then-fleet "back in the day we actually had to EARN that ship."

Wasn't flame-y, wasn't a personal attack, it was more of friendly joshing around.

Not like the barrage I was subject to in Local on ESD in the shipyard about people claiming the Chimera class.

Or the person cussing us out during the STF.

As I said above: Sanity please! It's only a game. Cryptic does what Cryptic does and raging out on other players isn't going to help.

If I read this correctly, he was raging because you have recently bought a lifetime membership and he felt it was unfair to the players who actually paid a subscription for 1000 days?

I bought... lets see... Right around the beginning of the Great Content Drought at the end of the Romulan FEs.

I was a member for about three months prior to that.

So by no means am I a "new" LTS. I just don't post to the forums very much. :)

My concern is the pointless over-rage and people trolling other members over claiming a reward.

You have no clue as to how long I've been a member or when I went LTS. Going off on a tirade at random people just paints you as... well... not a very nice person. :D (not aimed at the quoted poster! I mean rage-trolls in general!)

Love the game but some of the nut-ball players are just laughable...use the opportunity to point out other perceived injustices to the "veterans" and give him the e-finger before he quits in a huff.

I have played this game since beta and have been a Lifetime subscriber since year one...I could care less that Cryptic is offering this because *gasp* it's a frigging game and if it is anything more that that to you, you need therapy.

^ Yup, this one. Not the other players' fault. Take it out on Cryptic.

Might've understood the reaction if he'd found himself in there with 4 captain's yachts, but fortunately those days are over.

I'm a tad iffy to be honest. There are a nice amount of 1000 day players (there are no more "veterens"), but to be honest, I'm going to assume now that at least half will be LTS (excluding those before this gimmick) who gold-bought their way into STO in a way.

I don't blame the Gal-X user, but I'm not going to personally attack players ingame because they are using the latest ship.

If someone starts gloating a "LOL FU Gold members!!" I'm going to jsut report them and ignore them as much as possible.

You came on the forum to get complimented for your new ship.

Sorry to rain on your parade but I don't even know the ship or seen a screenshot, so much for feeling cool and awesome

The only thing I really wished is that they would have left the titles as timed. Yes, you will eventually get to 1000 days but, the titles are really the only obvious indication of how long you have been subbed. This is if you used them. At this, I am at 874 days. I will not lie, I will claim the ships (at least one on each side). I will wait to change my titles only as I pass the days. I will keep my forum title as Career Officer until I hit 1000 days. Then we will see.

That just means they have unlimited patience and time to grind.

Time is money. Not everyone wants to spend time working in a game.

Question? You say reward do to you. So you were working up to the 1000 say vet status or you just bought the promotion and were rewarded the ship? The lifers a just upset cause they put all this time and effort into the came to claim their rewards and then over night anyone who can spend 200 bucks can get the same perks for not doing anything, thats what they are upset about. That people who didnt want to work for it got it handed to them, that is all. So I understand where they are coming from.

What kind of an idiot ragequits over someone having a ship?

I don't own any of the lockbox ships, yet I don't ragequit when someone plays with them in a queue.

    What time and effort, bro?

You could have purchased an LTS early in the game's release and then shelved it.

You would have claimed your reward today just like everyone else with no time invested.

The reward counts the days you've been subscribed, not the amount of time played.

The people complaining about this change are just being childish.

They can't handle that Cryptic/PWI are a business and need to make money. Part of doing that is through creating incentive to purchase things in the game.

These people all probably have lockbox ships too.

No, Im talking about the people who never had a membership and then bought one and was handed everything, thats what im talking about. For the people that had a membership before this little stunt was pulled, they are fine, its the ones that didnt and were rewarded everything for doing nothing. If you had a membership before this promo, thats cool, shows you were a vet and giving your time to the game. Its the other people that were not and decided to receive stuff for free for doing nothing. Im not upset at either side, and I can understand both sides, I just think that it should have been handeled better is.

That guy should probably take up another form of entertainment, like boxing or street luge; you know, less stressful endeavors.
In fact, I knew that already. I didn't know what the 1000 day ship was going to be until Cryptic released the info, but I certainly knew that it wouldn't be worth blowing away $200 for it.

He's so right. Getting the free ship, BOffs, locked captain options, getting the monthly stipend, skill boosts, Captain's Yacht, titles, ship costume, character costumes, it totally was not worth it. I feel so cheated and robbed.

This kind of behavior is EXHIBIT A: why we will never have a vote-kick-ban system for STFs. I've seen more people rage-quite STFs over the last day than I have in the entire period I've played the game.

The only thing in common with all of these rage-quits: One or more Chimera class ships. Most of the Quitters are flying Oddities or other "conventional" ships, and most of them fire off a rude remark before departing.

Really... this is bizarre behavior even for the Internet.

The rage is completely understandable. It is like finally earning a lockbox ship and the day after you obtain it, it is available for free. There will always be people saying that some lifers are playing with rewards they didn't earn. Certain things should only be available through intangible means like team and effort not money. If a person that started the game today and get this ship when they reach level 50 in a week by spending $200, then I should be able to purchase the Mk XII MACO ground and space set since time spent is now completely meaningless in this game and everything will eventually be able to be purchased with money.

It's like this, for an analogy:

You spend 1000 days in the military, and earn your stripes for time spent in the military.

Some guy comes along, and pays $300, they hand him his stripes for money, but he didn't really spend the 1000 days in the military earning them.

You bet that'd make the other person angry.
