The Lt Commander Tactical slot allows me to run alternating Beam Overloads and Fire at Wills while keeping Tac Team 1. The ensign slot is an engineer which gives me Emergency Power to Weapons- which really is better then doubling up on tac team 1's which is what I would have to do if I had the useless ensign tac slot. Throw on a couple of dili mine rcs + hull consoles and a decent deflector and this ship can easily top 65K hull strength while manuevering like an escourt. And this ship is SMALL! It is about the same size as your multivector escourt or the saucer section of the oddy. So I say Excelsior!
I am running 2 dual beams and 2 single beams on the front and 2 single beams, a borg cutting beam and a turret on the back. This gives 6 weaps on target no matter your angle, maxs out FAW to 6 beams, and puts the best dps in front. I also run 2 Conn Doffs to get your Tac Team cooldown to 18 secs along with 2 maintenance to do the same with Engi Team. The last doff is a purple to give the bonus per battery type. With Red Matter capaciter and Weapons batteries that doff really helps!
I really enjoy this ship with my tact captain because not only does it do decent damage and draw great threat/aggro with the fire at wills, it also gives you a ton of healing options with the commander engi, lt engi, and ensign engi. Playing pure dps in an escort is fun but got old, so now I go in and tank and offheal in this tiny brick of a deathblossom. Good hunting!
That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.
Keep in mind that the wide-angle torp on the Regent can not only be used on any other ship, but, like most other torps, can go in back as well as in front. So, even if you don't want to play with a Regent, you can just strip out its wide-angle torp and move it to the cruiser of your choice. Unfortunately I think it only lets you have one of these torps per ship though, so you won't be able to mount one on each end for a 360-degree torp range.

Yep, that's the ugly truth. Tactical captains will never be anywhere near as effective in a cruiser vs being in an escort. The closest you might get is the Galaxy-X, but any way you chew it up cruisers won't work well with tacs. But if you're really wanting a cruiser, Galaxy-X dreadnought, Odyssey tactical, or excelsior.
EDIT: even though my flagship (in my signature) is a cruiser, I run the tactical escort retrofit (the cloaking Defiant).

If you think that why do you fly federation at all romulan ships are superior Boffs are wildly op oh and all have battle cloaks so I by your estimations EVERY player should generically roll a romulan
On a brighter note I like flying both escort and cruiser and i think myself to be fairly competent in pvp and pve
In pvp unfortunately I have to rely on DEM and lv 2 nukura passive get loads o bleed through whilst using the usual rsp epts3 for survival
I just purchased the fleet assault cruiser(regent class) I run it on my tac it is fantastic plus it breaks the mold of pew pew in my rom and KDF escorts/bops
If you can afford it roll aux 2 bat you'll never look back really

P.s. sorry about the borderline trollish beginning but I hate noobs that think tacs must fly escort eng in cruiser and sci in sci it's a joke
