When i see some of star trek shows, i saw one torpedo shot can disable a subsystem. i was hoping that a few shots on enemy ships can destroy or disable them but a few shots from enemy ships can destroy or disable us too so it can be fair. we can withstand it with engineering team and miracle worker ability. how fast we destroy the enemy depends on which part of the enemy ship we fire on. In some star trek shows episodes, they explain their enemy's ship weakness so it will be disabled or destroyed. Disabled ships can be boarded by adding away team ability,it only activates when the enemy shield is down and you can force them to self destruct or disabled some of their abilities or subsystem. boarding party shuttle ability can be removed if nescessary to change with the ability i mentioned.
Other players who view this post can add something i forgot to add in their reply.
This is just my concept of revamping space combat, cryptic studios can modify the concept so it can corporate with the game.:)
I like the Elite system damage system for what happens when you die so why not create a diminishing returns scale based on HP?
The more hull you lose the more and worse subsystems start breaking and bringing very minor debuffs.

It was sort of like that in Klingon Academy. The Best Star Trek Space Combat game i've every played.
You could reduce a Starships hull to swiss cheese, and they could repair it about 10%. But if you destroyed an engine, that ship lost a lot of power. If you destroyed the impulse engines, the ship only had thrusteres or could not move at all.
Klingon Academy!!! yeah, I still play that now and then! It was and is still far superior to all other Trek Combat games. If only it got re-made and re-mastered using radial UI. Dangit all. Anyone have KA and want to fight?
Just look at these images to see the combat damage in KA. Also, you can't repair the damage fully in combat! It was epic going into battle with your ship still showing combat damage from the last engagement! EPIC!!!
And this ship is still flying! I've been in this siituation before! 10% shields and one phaser bank online running on emergency power. Life support failing. Yet, I was sill fighting! Such awesome memories that game has!!! http://pcmedia.ign.com/media/previews/image/klingonacademya016.jpg
If it aint broke, don't fix it. Space combat may need some tweaks here and there but certainly not a whole ground combat style revamp.
Indeed. Space combat is what works best in this game right now. Fix the stuff that's not working before you revisit this.
And please, if there's any sort of divinity in this universe, may he/she/it spare me from "on the TV show they..." You can't make combat look like TV. TV is driven by dramatic necessity. If this game was like TV, we'd fire our phasers an average of once or twice per month of play. You can make combat follow tropes from the TV, certainly; but you can't make a system that produces TV results because those results are inconsistent even WITHIN an episode, much less between them.
Permanently disabled subsystems sound great until the random number catches you and you die from the first group of enemies in a mission twice in a row. Then you're not having fun anymore, and you start questioning why you're paying money to not have fun.

We might can adapt the space combat from bridge commander, its a good game though but quite hard on the combat. I just don't want like an saber class fought a klingon negh'var ship. I felt wierd about that but its still ok with me. Its just an suggestion to upgrade the space combat so you won't need difficulty level. If i miss anything, pls send a reply:)

It has been suggested many times by various players who felt that the developers abandoned the Star Trek IP when having light Cruisers fight large Battle Cruisers and Battle Groups and coming out unscathed.
I would have wished it to be that the low Tiers ships fought other low tier ships in PVE and occasionally the boss ship could have been a higher Tier vessel.
Alas, the Developers created this MMO like any other and gave us simple monster kill. Never did they think to do something uniquely Star Trek and give us a challenging opponent that would take about the same amount of time to kill as does a bunch of senseless punching bags.
It would be interesting to see the same Klingon who gets pulled out into space when a Klingon ship explodes on every movie and maybe DS9 since probably ST III in the game. You know the one. The guy shown in the fiery exploding corridor that looks like someone yanked on a rope tied to his feet and dragged him off.
j/k, I'd rather they work on stuff that improves gameplay. I just think the stunt guy who was involved in that shot is probably dead from old age by now so I find it hilarous that clip is still being shown (relative term since there hasn't been any non-reboot ST in several years).

Space combat is the only things that doesn't need to be revamped. It could use slight improvements here and there, but overall, space is great. Now ground combat, on the other hand....
i say no to a revamp as stated...hwoever i would like to see a tweak where on elite mode, as you take damage from dying, your ship looks more and more damaged...so when you have say 14 injuries stacked up (YES i have seen a player who had that many running an ISE lol) the ship would look like it was ready to fall apart...sort of like in ENT after it had that huge attack on it.
I know a revamp in space combat is impossible, although cryptic can add something so that space combat more interesting. They can add like alerts so if we don't want to provoke an enemy but has our auto attack on.

thats funny. LOL
Look, we can argue the merits and demerits of such major alterations all we want, but in the end it will not happen.
No company will rewrite their entire game's engine on the whims of a few forum members.
Tweaks, yes. Revamps, no.
