Hi Captains,
We will be bringing down Star Trek Online tomorrow, Thursday, September 13th, at 7AM PDT (click
here to view in your timezone) for maintenance and to apply a new patch. Patch notes can be found
here, and we expect this maintenance to only last for 2 hours.
Thanks for your patience and understanding,
- The Star Trek Online Team

There is nothing wrong with the event. You earn the ec as you fly around completing sectors and not when you hand in the mission on esd.
Or is this not happening for you?
What about missing stipends and Tribble of Borg not being purchasable ? (what marketing decision is behind a single character only item unlock ? would not be better from Cryptic's/PWE's point of view to have more characters purchase the tribble, for 300 zen each ?)
How low is that on your priority list of things to fix? It's been months now.

No, it is not paying. I keep very close track of how much I have before and after the event. Some sectors pay, some don't.
I know Eta Eridani, Pelia and Orellious pay. Sirius, all of Romulan space, Pi Canis, Regulus DO NOT pay. (That's all I can remember off the top of my head)
Maintenance and patching could be considered two different things. Yes, maybe the patch could wait, but the maintenance? Cryptic sometimes slips in patches when they're doing maintenance, so this isn't unusual.
Besides, 2 hours isn't that long.

I know it isn't unusual. But I have red the patch note. Nothing there about maintenance or server issues being corrected.
So the information in the patch note is flawed or my remark still stands
Not sure about you but for me the server has been as stable as any other MMO I played.
Yes, of course. It's 10:12am here. You'd have them shift the maintenance to during my lunch break so I can't doff while at work.
The point is, it must happen some time. Any time it is done, on a global game, will inconvenience someone.
NIMBY logic does not apply to server maintenances.
Yep thats right so why cant they share that love...
Check the tech forum. It might not be affecting everyone but a large amount of people are being affected just with this game.
Is there a big surprise within this patch, that you don't want us to know? Maybe I should have spent more time on Tribble...
If Star Trek Online was an Open-Source (GPL) Game, we would have a low-grind fork.
No, the point is that it *always* happens during European prime time, and *always* neatly at 7 AM for the Americans. Would be nice if they thought about other countries for a change.
That's because they're "patch notes," not maintenance notes :P They never have posted what kind of maintenance they're doing because, out of the few people that would understand, nobody needs to know, lol
9 Episodes = 30+ episodes...?

It's pronounced "S.T.O." "Stow" sounds idiotic! lol
Actually, I am an American, and it happens from 10am-12:00pm(ish) in my time zone. I usually take my lunch break at 11am and do some Doffing. This occurs right during that time. So, no Doffing for me on my break today...
Needless to say, inconvenient, yes. A big deal. Not really.
I'd hazard a guess as to the time frame (7AM Pacific time) coincides with when the Cryptic team is going on shift for the morning. The servers are located there, so it runs on their time schedule, not the rest of the world...
The same would probably be true if the servers were located elsewhere. The would go by the *local* time, not time in another location...
But that would just be my best guess...
no not all americans. its 9:36 am here and they just started it and i just got up and want to play and cant.
I live in the UK so I know what you mean, but they do patching/server maintenance at that time, so if something goes wrong. They then have all day to post on the forums "working as expected" (coff) I mean look into fixing the problems.
No, the point is that it always happens when it affects the fewest players. If you graph out the number of players currently in the game over the course of 24 hours, you will come up with something that is roughly a sine wave. Our maintenance happens at the lowest point in that sine wave.
Good answer.
Well, I appreciate that you took the time to explain. It's something I had been feeling frustrated about a bit over time.
true
btw, for me (EU) the update is on my prime time: 4-6 pm. I go online earlyer and do my PC maintance when servers are down.
I think there is something wrong with Colony invasion - wrong end results
Agreed, but I would like to know something.
All fixes you guys do is for the better and am not moaning here, but curious!
Since the last few patches have been, some might consider small. Does this mean you are working on something big, to be release soon?
Ok, I know the Users-Online-Graph of Steam, if yours is similar, you missed the lowest point by about 2 hours (so, if your graph is similar, you should have started 2 hours earlier).
2 hours earlier wouldn't make a big difference for me, but maybe for somebody else...
If Star Trek Online was an Open-Source (GPL) Game, we would have a low-grind fork.
Yes, it sometimes says you have not rescued all the dips or collies, I have noticed that if you don't get a message confirming bonus objection complete it does not register you rescuing them. Even though you beamed them out. It's very annoying.
We even got a 4/3 dips the other day, don't know how it happened
