So lately while rolling around in my kitty carrier I found myself lamenting that neither side has a pure carrier focused on engineering boffs and skills.
This struck me as somewhat absurd and the best potential way to bring a true federation carrier into play.
Imagine if you will the Federation needs a platform for large scale construction work and they need it to be mobile. I mean after the Dominion war the demand for such a vessel would be quite high. Something equipped with massive cargospace and industrial replicators that can go around and provide construction support on world after world while still protecting itself from the dangers of the two Quadrants.
So you end up with a carrier. Since equipping the ship with a large number of fighter aircraft provides it with a way of defending itself that also ties very well into its intended purpose not only in that it can build its own fighter complement but also use them to help protect what its building on the planets surface as well as defend itself.
Very reasonable, and if it spawned Oberth's or Aquarius hanger pets I'd buy the thing ASAP. I don't know why but the idea of having a pet similar to the Bop's or frigates on red side has been really appealing to me. Even if the things were just pimped versions of the Runabout (oberth) or peregrine(aquarius hanger pet) they'd still be fun.
If it didn't have a special pet I'd probably need to give it a good hard look first.
If you wish to fly a engineering carrier, i suggest you try a stint with the KDF (we dont bite, well the gorn do )
As for the idea of bigger ships for fed carriers, i still dont agree, (ill try not bring the usual you got carriers now you want more kdf style argument..)
But taking the suggestion that an oberth and having it a as a powered up danube is bonkers .
For a start, the Oberths are science/research ships, having them shoved in a carrier is so many kinds of wrong. As for a 'pimped up' danube,... they are already strong enough! they had to be nerfed and have the entire game's phaser proc nerfed BECAUSE they were op to being with
In all honestly i dont even know why the Vo'quv has Bops as a pet, it just seems absurd, but having defiants or any other kind of escort, or any kind of big vessel on a federation carrier just doesnt sit right with me.

I don't think you understood what I was saying. I'm talking having two big pets per hanger instead of 4 or 6 little things. It does seem a little absurd to have big pets but the KDF has had them for a while and they could just as easily be "holographic projections" or "support vehicles".
I doubt the phaser proc got nerfed just because of runabouts, they may have got blamed but it's BS if they did (I wasn't even aware it had been nerfed). All Fed hanger pets with one exception use phasers and some of those pets are much more likely to proc then runabouts.
I'm firmly of the opinion the most powerful pet in the game is the one throwing around tricobolt mines and HY II tricobolt torpedoes and acetone beams, not the little bitty runabouts. http://www.stowiki.org/Hangar_-_Advanced_Fer%27Jai_Frigate

The NX escort would work great too.
