i've only got a few hours of gameplay under my belt, but i have a number of questions that i have been unable to find answers for in forum searches and reading the STOwiki.

1.) Selling items: I know from the STOwiki that you can sell items from your inventory to get energy credits. But while the wiki goes into detail about places you can spend energy credits to obtain items, it doesn't present information on where you can go to sell your excess items.
Likewise, the STOwiki says some missions give out energy credits as rewards. but it does not provide a sampling of these mission so that players can find them. for low level players just starting out, what are some of the options for such missions?

2.) Dilithium: similar to the above. for lower level characters, what missions are available to obtain Dilithium ore? most of the list on the STOwiki is higher level stuff, aside from the Academy Event.

3.) Naming starships: When you buy a new starship, you can name it different than your current ship, correct?

4.) getting rid of old starships: when you dismiss an old starship you no longer want to use (like say the Tier 1 training craft), can you strip hardware (weapons, consoles, etc.) from it beforehand, to preserve any special systems and/or to obtain a few extra energy credits?

5.) Uniforms: is there a way to save uniform parts selections and color scheme so that you can apply it to any new Bridge Officers more easily? in customizing my Bridge officers a number of errors crept into the style because i had to work from memory as to the parts and colors.. and thus not all of them wound up the way i had planned, something i didn't find out until after i'd saved the result. i didn't see an option to save a design (like the ship customization system has), but i might have missed something.

6.) Lockboxes: my first few missions garnered me half a dozen of the tholian lockbox.. are C-store master keys the only way to get them open, or are there places in game that can earn me some keys or offer a way to open them without the C-store?

i expect i will have more questions later on, as i play through and hit other things that i just can't find answers to in the existing help info.

1.) You can sell items to any standard vendor and to your replicator. the vendors are spread around the majopr space stations and some wandering traders in sector space. your replicator can be accessed from your inventory tab. as for the missions you can see the rewards before you accept them. And since you have to play or skip them you can just check and see if its a reward you would like. Also all mission rewards scale with your level so if theres a reward you particularly like you can go and redo the mission when you level up for the version in your level bracket.

2.)there are few places a lower level char can get dilithium. the ones i remember are the fed mirror event the foundry daily dismissing unwanted duty officers and i think the exploration dailys.

3.) yes once you set your new ship as current there is a rename button on the bottom left of the ship status window.

4.) yes however any equipment that came with the ship when you purchased it has no value.

5.) If i recall you can save uniform setups directly from the editor but only for your char. i can't remember if it will let you load it into bridge officer setups.

6.)keys can be bought for ec on the exchange but all keys were purchased for zen at some point. you can also convert dilithium to zen if you wish.

1A) does selling to a vendor earn more EC's than 'selling' to my replicator? obviously a vendor would give an immediate chance to spend the credits, but i'm just curious as to which gives a better return.

4A) so the base equipment is worthless? good to know, that will free up some space in my inventory. and it is nice to know i can grab the good gear i have now (well, compared to the base equipment) off the ship before freeing up that ship slot.

1 You can sell on the Exchange (auction house) or to assorted vendors. Oddly, bartenders generally give you the best rate and will buy anything. Before selling something though, check the Exchange, as some random junk you find occasionally is in extremely high demand for Fleet projects (Romulan Ale for example at 150k a bottle).

2 Don't worry about it too much at low level. Do the Path To 2409 daily and exploit the Investigate Officer Report missions (search for 'Hot' missions at first. 30 seconds, 1440 dil, till you're ready to do the serious missions usually written with admirals in mind). Explore Strange New Worlds is another one you can do early on, or Lt Commander Icheb gives out some PVP dailies if you want to go that route.

3 You can name it different, the same, or do nothing and name it later when you come up with a better idea.

4 Yes you can strip a ship before dismissing it. However you may want to hang on to it, as you get extra ship slots as you level and your old ship gives you extra storage space for ship gear at no extra cost.

5 Sort of. You can Save an appearance, then go to another officer of the same species and gender and Load it to copy the save. However its an exact copy, facial features and all, so if you just want to save the uniform, better to take notes. However if you ever want to 'upgrade' an officer by buying a higher-quality one but 'keeping' your old friend, you can simply copy-paste the old officer onto the new-and-improved one, same name and all.

6 Except for that one teaser freebie, keys are the only option. C-Store or the Exchange. Treat it like a lotto ticket; you pay a dollar or a million EC and take a chance on something shiny. Most people just toss them out the airlock.

Throwing out some general answers in hopes they'll help out some...

For 1 - I would recommend you sell it back at ESD, specifically the ground equipment requisitions near the club. They won't rip you off, relatively speaking - you get 50% of the EC "worth."

For 2 - I believe that a previous poster already stated - don't worry about it.

For 3 - You HAVE to name the ship differently. I don't believe they let you have two ships with the exact same name. And to be perfectly honest, for a lot of people it just looks kinda silly to be running around with the Enterprize-K or whatever.

For 4 - All ship components are removable, but on some ships that come with a special console, the console is useless without the ship. Note that this doesn't apply to the standard rank-up ships though. However, I would recommend you keep your ships around, if nothing more than for the storage space.

For 5 - Someone else will have to fill you in.

For 6 - You can trade dil for zen to buy it, but nothing directly. However, if you're going to play the lockbox game, wait until you're max level. If I recall correctly some of the stuff is "level appropriate," and if you're at anything other than level 50 that means it's going into the waste basket sooner or later, and by that I mean sooner rather than later.

Selling to the replicator nets you the smallest amount of ec vendors generaly give you more.

And yes the equipment that comes with a ship has no cash value.

2.) Dilithium: similar to the above. for lower level characters, what missions are available to obtain Dilithium ore? most of the list on the STOwiki is higher level stuff, aside from the Academy Event.

    From what i can remember

Things like Investigate Officer Reports , the cluster Explore 3 anomoly one - cant remember the name atm both should give 1440 for a very quick time

    Academy event

480 from the Lore question at SFA

2000 from handing in 5 Contraband to the security officer at the centre of ESD

look out for the DOFF assignments Resettle and Relocate colonists (one gives 5 colonists and the other gives you 500dil for 5 colonists) - or use them for the cluster support assignments

    Dilithium mining near DS9

Depending on your level you may be able to do the Alhena refueling mission in ETA space, 480 dil + you get Deuterium surplus which is really nice

one you have done the Deferi missions there are another 5 or so ways of getting more due to thier repeatables, STFs at near end game, The Borg sector block invasions give 480, theres also the Traelus repair in ETA space for 480 per day

stuff i'll keep an eye out for. so far i haven't done much of anything outside the Sirius block around Sol.. well, aside from that trip to Memory Alpha.

did the Academy event today, rather fun and with a good payout. though next time i'll remember to swap out my phaser sniper rifle with something geared more for short ranged battle, those klingon holograms move quicker than i could retreat to a safe distance to shoot from. (stuck using the RPG controls on a laptop without a numpad due to minor lag issues.. hard to do a FPS interface when you can't easily sidestep.)

one you have done the Deferi missions there are another 5 or so ways of getting more due to thier repeatables, STFs at near end game, The Borg sector block invasions give 480, theres also the Traelus repair in ETA space for 480 per day

i'm only Lv5 at the moment, and only about 3 missions into the klingon war story arc, but i'll keep these in mind.

the main reason i asked was because energy credits and Dilithium are the easy way to get equipment, new Bridge officers, costume changes etc, but there are no intro missions or fan tutorials for obtaining them at the introductory levels, which IMO is a time when most players are really going to want and need them to help overcome the little errors and mistakes players make in things like equipment, uniforms, etc.

the Raptr reward will help in that regard though. the one i got had lots of good, useful basic gear that would help newer players get off to a good start.
