Ability / Skill / Power Tray question

Question referring to the tray that's default to the bottom right.

Ok, I'm not new to the game, but I still haven't found a workaround for this. I've searched our friend that we've all come to know and love, who goes by the name "Archived Post", but he/she/it hasn't helped me out.

When I switch ships, is there any way for me to save my abilities / power / skill tray layout? The correct Boffs stay in their correct stations, but the skill tray always resets. Does anybody have a fix for this?

Sorry, but nope. You have to reset it each time. Now if you go back to that ship everything will still be setup. Just not the BOFFs, you have to re-put them in their spots.

I have yet to find a way to save it. I think it is because you could put say DHC fire button there and then go to a cruiser, but the cruiser can't use DHCs.

I went from an escort to a cruiser, but never slotted any Boffs or skills on the cruiser. The cruiser had 0 Boffs on board. The tray went to whatever default setting it had, according to my captain abilities, which makes sense, since it doesn't have anything else to refer to.

When I went back to my escort (the same escort from which i had just swapped over to the cruiser with), my Boff layout was still correct. The correct Boffs were in the their correct spots. Everything was as I left it, but the skill tray was still reset.

The system is set up so that you cannot have 2 ships with the same name.
E.G. : U.S.S. Example and another ship in the same inventory as U.S.S. Example.

The System is also set up so that you cannot have 2 of the same player name.
E.G. IplaySTO@blahblah and another player with the name IplaySTO@blahblah.

Given that these are 2 unique variables that are already in the system, why can't the devs assign a save function for an action along the lines of "player IplaySTO@blahblah in ship class Cruiser of name Example saves tray IplaySTO@blahblah+Cruiser+Example" ?

Obviously, I'm no game programmer (as per the command I just listed), but programming all follows the same logic, it's just in a different language.

If you have 2 ships with close to same setup but one change then it messes up. Switched from my Atrox to my Sov and my BOFFs were in the wrong spots. This could just be me, but I am guessing it is true always.

You don't know the half of it.

Change a ship's name. Same problem.

Add a new ship with a name that places it at the top of in the middle of your existing ship roster. Same problem.

Train/change a skill that belongs to one of the boffs assigned to a ship. Same problem.

    The list goes on.

I don't think the powers/tray are tied to the ship. They appear to be tied to the roster slot number. The only time it does seem to 'work' is if you are changing between 2 ships and even then, it fails. Besides, don't you find the game randomly populating empty slots with powers annoying? It's like a dumb waiter giving you ice water in a warm cup when you ask for warm cup of water.

Bottom line. Assume that if you change ships or change a skill to an assigned boff, there is a very high chance of your power tray being messed up. Like the need to retype your username (old Cryptic/new PWE) when logging in or the UI windows closing when accessing Dept head assignments or the periodically malfunctioning transporters in Qo'nos. Things are working as intended.
