1. NPC enemies can shoot through walls, mountains of rock, and other supposedly durable structures. But my shots get blocked if there is so much as a shadow of a newts nose in the way, even when I am using the most high-powered weapons. The game obviously knows where boundaries are, so why cant I hide behind stuff without getting blasted? I dont see how it improves gameplay to be shot by something I cant even see while hiding behind a giant rock.
2. When I get killed, a large percentage of the time it is because I am rooted by accidently wandering too close to some object with a menu. The object can be a drop or some sort of device I am supposed to interact with. In any case, a menu appears and my feet are stuck (paralyzed by indecision?). Before I can tell the menu what to go do with itself, some bad guy shoots me. Like Admiral Ackbar sez: Its a trap! The transport pads and portals on Nukara are especially bad for this. Those transporters also beam me away a lot when I was only trying to pick up some dead Tholians drop (-Take Item- should be the FIRST option in that menu, not the last).
Is there something inherent in the game that prevents these things from being changed, or are these elements supposed to be entertaining in some way that I dont understand?
I think there are at least a page of things that need to be fixed in STO, and I'm not talking about features it *should* have, I'm just talking about features currently included that ought to work more reliably...
#1 - FIX THE DAMN FLICKERY SKY!! - theres a known bug going back at least 6 months, regarding z-fighting that seems to be going on with their background textures - I'm still waiting for a fix...
#2 - chat channel fixes - I'm still occasionally, and inexplicably, getting shut out of team chat - the workaround is an easy switch to another channel, then switch back to team chat, but I'm still trying to figure out why it's still happening at all
#3 - voice chat fixes - trying to get voice chat to work with your teammates is a world class crapshoot - sometimes it works without a hitch, sometimes you have to "play" with it, some times you have to log in/log out to make it work, sometimes you have to do any one of the 3 above whenever you team up, then get unteamed again when leaving an instance or an stf...
those are the three that I encounter just about every day...I'm sure there are more...
and THEN there are the features the game *should* have - that's a book in itself...
There is no correct resolution; it's a test of character.

I never have a problem with #1. Perhaps because I never really look to see where to attack is coming from. I'm too busy killing my current target.
#2 plagues more at starbases and especially Starfleet Academy where there is more stuff to interact with. In order to counter this annoying feature, I have to move by strafing or with my mouse.
I think the reason it happens in the first place is because the game is somehow playable without a mouse. Like old DOS systems... or the LCARS interface on starships.

ground combat sucks hard to begin with- they should take a leaf out of halos book, or cod or even gears of wars' books. thats how bad sto ground combat is.
When in doubt, (hehe) c4!

Actually STO ground combat is pretty good...better then some tom clancy GRAW games or Arma where macro your ai buddys is like controlling a 3 yr old kid.
^ I don't have auto loot enabled. The problem in #2 is still present for me.

The ones in the MU event tend to kill me within a second as it allows my FPS to slow until I am looking at a slideshow it only resumes normal speed when I get killed

#2 is an easy fix.. go into the option and turn on AUTO LOOT..
this gets rid of that menu and just picks up all items..
I have autoloot turned on but I still get one of those shiny eggs to pick up every time a bad guy drops. Is there something about autoloot I am not understanding? I thought it meant AUTO LOOT>

Auto Loot means when you open that box, you take everything in it. Without that, you'd open the box, and then select which loot to take out of it.

those things are fps kills...even on the speed setting of graphics...im fine everywhere else but areas that have those huge white streaks.
and the terradome bug is a pain...my friend and i were only able to get the first console TRIBBLE and couldn't do anything else after that.
