Ship Limitations

I chose the tactical focus for my character and I am frustrated with the outlook on ships. If I am to stick with the ship designed for my focus, most ranks i'm stuck with the defiant design! and i refuse to fly those generic little escorts. SO when i reach captain i'm going to have to switch bridge officers again cuz i'm going to be flying a science vessel and when i reach rear admiral i'll be flying and engineering vessel. The Devs need to make an option (even if it cost a few zen) that allows you to refit the consoles and bridge officer positions on a ship designed for the other two disciplines. Any one else agree?

Im guessing you're still in the process of leveling up, and that you are a tactical captain

When you level up to 20/30/40 you get a new ship, although you are a tactical captain you dont have to choose escort ships,

As for your bridge officer worries about changing from escorts to say cruisers, by the time you get to 30/40/50 you normally get given an extra bridge officer slot.

A good Bridge officer crew isn't necessarily using all of one profession. Having 2 eng, 2 sci and 1 tact can normally give you a good balance, while satisfying your Ships Bridge officer seating. (6is the max boffs slots you get for free i think)

In short, you will get a few extra slots for boffs while you level up,

If there are not enough to satisfy you, you can even buy 2 extra slots from the C-store (make sure you dont confuse BOFF for CHARACTER slots :p)

Hope this helps (and makes sense) :)

EDIT: Your suggestion about tweaking boff layouts for Zpoints (to be blunt) would not go well, ships have set layouts, and you should always check the layouts of ships when making choices while leveling up :)
Though they mostly follow the idea that escorts = tact heavy, cruisers = eng heavy, sci = sci heavy

To my memory, the defiant is a captain rank ship only, unless you buy the store versions, also I never thought the Advanced Escort or Patrol (formally Fleet) Escort at Rear Admiral lower rank looked like a defiant.

As for your last point, that's a big fat NO

I'm going to say no, for issues of game balance.

Many may argue that the game isn't particularly balanced to begin with, but if you start letting people effectively put whatever console and BOff stations they want into an Escort with its happy turn-rate and ability to mount and use DHCs effectively, then the game will be even less balanced than it is now.

I see your point but i was more talking about the reverse.
I hate the tactical ships for most of the ranks with the exception of commander and vice admiral. I simply want to be able to use my fully ranked tactical officer in any ship from captain up. Like i said the only ship i even life at captain rank is voyager but im going to be sacrificing my tactical officers abilities

I'm not sure what you mean here.

You want to fly a Long Range Science Vessel (Intrepid class) but don't want to sacrifice your Tactical abilities. You'll still have your captain's tactical abilities (Attack Pattern Alpha, Go Down Fighting etc.) if you pick an Intrepid, you'll only be losing tactical abilities from your Bridge Officers (eg. Cannon Rapid Fire, Tactical Team etc.) since Science ships use less tactical BOffs than Escorts.

If that's what your issue is, then surely the solution you're suggesting is to allow any type of BOff & console on any ship. Which would cause issues with game balance.

well then maybe the solution is to make all of the stats transfer. in other words if you want to turn a tactical ship into a science vessel then its going to handle like one as well. I'm strictly talking about aesthetics. The tactical officers are getting ripped off with vessel choice pretty much till they reach vice admiral. I understand you don't have to take the ships from your discipline but you penalize yourself if you don't. and im not even talking about handling. I have no problem fighting with a heavy hard to turn ship, after all, all the great captains we know and love did fine in that respect. This is just my number one gripe about this game is the contradiction in the role playing aspect, your entire senior bridge crew wouldn't go down with you on every away mission, every captain regardless of what their expertise is wears a red uniform (depending on the era) and when it really comes down to it this is the federation in a time of war, tactical is the main focus of the game so i never really got what the big deal with the science and engineering focus is.

This is the beauty of the game. You can fly whichever ship you want. Most of my captains have between twelve and fifteen BOffs, because they all fly multiple ships with multiple BOff configuration.
