I love a good run of Starbase Blockade, but one thing that irks me is how the freighters just turn tail and run as soon as the timer hits 0:00. Would it not be a reasonable reward for those who stay until the end of a round for the last freighters already into the system by the time the timer runs out to at least make an effort to get to the starbase? I can't imagine it would be difficult to code the event to just halt any new freighters warping in after the end, but to allow those already present to run their course.
It's just a bit frustrating when I see a nearly perfect run with 20 freighters saved, but two or three freighters that were one tick of the progress bar away from completing their transports. As a teammate said, why do they get to punch the timeclock at 0:00 in the middle of a battle?
When they're off the clock, they go home. They don't work extra without overtime pay, and the boss didn't authorize that.
You want a strike on our hands? I can just see them refusing to cross the picket lines.

Heres an idea, Grab every player with a Tuffli, and replace the NPC's with us. I would stay in the fight so you could finish it, no matter what it took. Plus it would be very interesting IMHO.

Course we would be crossing the Union line.....
Interesting idea, and it might help with the other problem... no one going to help the freighters because they don't see them (they don't check their maps I guess?). Players would demand that you "get your butts over here and rescue me dammit".
Plus i would at least be able to toss heal out to my defenders. Being an engineer does have its advantages. And with 100 heavy phaser satelite Turrets on my Freighter I might actually get to use some.
The answer would likely be that it isn't the freighters going off duty, it is the deliveries not making it to wherever in time to save the day at the other end.
People starve, or a colony falls due to insufficient weapons, or some other issue.. whatever the freighters were carrying did not arrive in time to avert the impending disaster.
That is the thing about missions. You see the results on the battlefield, but usually need a lot more information to learn what they really mean.
It would make an interesting PVE or even PVP. Have the new event have three teams, the frieghters, the protectors and the attackers.
For the freighters
Sell a further dumbed down version of the Truffi or another freighter and make rewards for the most ammout of time alive, minus a fixed amount for each death. along with some minor goals, like delivering cargo to a set point, or points.
The attackers have to keep the freighters alive, same idea, they get points on how long the frieghters are alive, minus each death.
The attackers are the hard one, they just get points for each freighter killed, and more points for each protector killed.
Could be a neat PVP, the PVE side would only have the single attacker team, or the freighter and protector teams, of course, but scoring could be the same.

This just started happening in a recent patch. Originally the timer hit zero and NO MORE showed up, but you still could defend the ones you had near the finish line.
Then for whatever reason (whatever the normal stupid reasons they mess stuff up are) they changed it to warp them all out the second the clock was dry.
