To Make a New Ship Class?

eizaeiza Member Posts: 38 Arc User
I have a question, Are we allowed to make our own ships and give them a Class?

I am not new to PWE or Star Trek.

I was playing the Ship Creator game oh about 5 years ago, where you could make a ship, I would like to request if you put a ship creator in and allow us to make all kinds of new ships, I was surprised with what you could make, along with the compliment of weapons and other systems, at the time it was state of the art, but now, i bet STO could do a lot better.

So Everyone who can answer this question please, i would enjoy the feed back.

(I am currently geting the game on my computer.)

No, we are not allowed to make our own ship Classes. We must pick from the Classes in the game - though we have a little bit of customization we can do to make some ships look slightly different from each other.

The issue deals with the license. This is s Star Trek game so ships need to look Trek-like. That is in contrast to a game like Eve where CCP is not requires to adhere to any licenses and can make whatever types of ships it likes.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

I'll also add that it makes more canonical sense with the limited choice of ship classes/variants.

Developing whole new ship classes in-universe is a very expensive venture, and if existing ship types can perform the various roles well enough, it doesn't matter how cool "Starship Creator" is - the Federation and the KDF won't pour resources into satisfying the whims of one or two newbie captains.
