Tabula Rasa was a fun game, but because NCsoft wasn't getting the revenue they thought they should the game was canned, no concessions to the player base, no thought of going to an F2P model, just into the trash and that's the end of that.
It was a shallow game. I didn't leave it because of a lack of concessions to the player base, I left because I got bored with it. Not sure that going F2P would have saved it.
It might have, but that was likely considered a bigger risk back then, and fewer games had been willing to take that risk. Going F2P does require a certain degree of reinvestment and risk. According to Wikipedia it was actually slated to go F2P a month before shutting down, so it sounds like they did actually consider it.
Asian people have got this game now. its all about how much they can get out of your pockets then any content or player satisfaction.
I'm guessing you weren't here before FTP, when we paid $15.00 a month and still had to buy the new things from the C-Store every month; and we didn't even have the option of earning Dilithium to get the C-Store items for free.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
Enough with the racist rhetoric, I've played a lot of Asian games that make western games look amateurish and it doesn't matter what part of the world they are in, none of these games are made to make you happy, they're made to make them money, that is reality, get used to it.
If something is not broken, don't fix it, if it is broken, don't leave it broken.

Do not forget the ranting, when some exclusive stuff finally appeared on th C-Store.
Some people were really hardcore those days, buying all kind of copies for the preorder bonusses. Refering themselves 20 times(?) to get the Galaxy-R (which meant 1 copy+ 1 paid month for each referal).
Those were the days, now STO is rather cheap to maintain (for players), and still makes enough cash as it seems.
This game isn't for the casual player. A causal player could, and probably would, spend yrs and not get the end game loot they want.
Defo not a casual game in my eyes.
Im a casual player. I have HORRIBLE luck at real life gambling. Therefore I havnt even ONCE bothered to play an STF for lottery end game MK XII gear. Im not throwing away my time like that.

My response to this is, why should we accept that the bar is set so low on this game that it's just like every other MMO?
Because every MMO that tries to stray too far from what the customers want becomes so unprofitable that the doors are closed. We'd rather have a good but not perfect game to play, than memories of a failed "perfect" game.

About the only thing decent in the game over the last 3 is the doff system and the foundry is vastly underused.
Why arent we out explorng/creating new worlds via foundry? And why i still cant do anything in the departments on my ship?
Not enough immersion, and covered up with fluff.
Dunno about you, but I've created new worlds via the foundry, and explored many others. And there's quite a bit to do in the departments in your ship, albeit all of it DOFF-related.
