gonradsgonrads Member Posts: 5 Arc User
i got this game before but was frustrated and trying again now, basically I didn't get far last time but i was in space and I had to hack something, it had wavy lines and was so confusing I lost interest. But wanna try the game again, does anyone know what thats about? I hear they changed a lot in the game and it's much better

Also is there any group Pve I can do at a low level like dungeons in wow? Any group finder that will que me?

Are you talking about the particle traces mini-game? you simply line up the red lines with the blue.

Its a minigame, originally it wasnt that important to do unless you were a crafter. But particle traces have become more important now with their use in building starbases for Fleets. The game is not that hard, its very simple.

The scanning minigame is optional -- you can press escape when it pops up to not participate, if you'd like :)

As for not being able to sign into the forums, a PWE account is required to use them (and the website, which contains your "My Account" portal). Now that you've made your PWE account, it would be a good idea to link it to your Cryptic account. That too is optional at the present time, but will be mandatory in the future. Also, if you do link it, you'll get a promotional item. Info on that here.

If you do want to link your account, open the launcher, select the "Perfect World" radio button, and sign in with your forum account. Then, it will ask you if you have a Cryptic account. Choose "yes" and then sign in with your Cryptic info. Then, bam! You're linked!

Also, Cryptic Points are not available to purchase anymore, so you'll want to link your account if you would like to purchase ZEN to use in the C-Store. Info about ZEN, including instructions on how to transfer it into STO, can be found here.

    Cheers,

    Brandon =/\=

    Cool thanks guys
I'm actually doing much better this time, I love the ground combat however space is still annoying to me.

Basically enemies seem to take too long to kill, but it's like huge cruisers and trash mobs both die at the same rate! It's wierd... I spam my attacks for a while and nothing happens
Then te shields go down and they die
But I feel as if it takes me too long to kill one mob, I'm lvl 5 now, so maybe that's how it is
Got my skills geared towards damage as I am a tactical

But as far as ground goes, I just steamroll through the enemies :s

Another question, if I am in the middle of a quest , and have to exit, do I gotta start over from the first part of the quest?
    Ie: part 1 kill stuff
    Warp
    Part 2 scan stuff
    Warp
    Part 3 on ground
And say if I log off in part 3, when I'm back in will I have to start at part 1 again?

    Thanks

On and I see I can volunteer for Pve fleet defends, is that like doing instances?
    Good way to level?

You'll have to restart the last map from the beginning of the objectives. Basically, if you did a mission that had space then ground (outdoors) then ground (indoors), meaning three maps, you'll start at the last one you were on.

My honest advice to you is just play to have fun. Too many folks in the game right now are tunnel-visioned on Fleetbase objectives to the point of overlooking everything else in the game - and making themselves crazy worrying about something that will take a minimum of 7 months to complete even with the largest Fleets. Just do the things you enjoy doing, and if you earn some Fleet Marks or Dilithium, then great! Just don't make that your focus of playing or you're going to quickly burn yourself out.

I'd also suggest finding a good Fleet to play with. Having other people to do things with makes the game much more enjoyable.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

In all honesty I never cared much about the larger things, its what turned me off of MMOs in the first place. I just want a ship, have some fun and whatever happens happens.

    Welcome back.

My tip would be take your time going through the story missions, don't rush them, go slow and take your time. You'll enjoy it much more than rushing and you'll be in the best place to learn the game.

You can join a fleet and do fleet missions from a very low lvl. Starbase 24 is available from about lvl 4 or 5 I think.

Do you know how to change your power settings? The default power settings for your ship leave your weapons power without much oomph. Along the bottom of your screen there's a panel that allows you to change the setting. The top left button is an "X". That will crank up your weapons power, allowing you to kill stuff faster. (Note that when you get a new ship, it will go back to the default setting, so you'll want to change it again.)

If you already knew all that, never mind.
