I mean like how the maps are setup in games like DotA or League of legends would go perfect with STO space combat.
2 sides with shipyards spawning ships on a 2-3 min interval heading to the other sides shipyard with in between a mix of very heavy turrets.
you can trow in some nebula`s and or asteroid fields in between.
and instead of the item system that dota or lol has just give players a persistent buff that either boost their defenses/attack or both for each ship kill
and it would be fairly easy to make as most of what you need is already in the game

There was one, a space assault called "enemy mine". It had two huge well defended bases and several little ones. You ferried assault teams one at a time from your home base to the little bases for some points or the opposing home for huge points.
Long story short, sometime in n the many queue fixing passes, it got thrown to the bottom of the game list, no one queued for it, and it got removed entirely from th e game.
