"Captain's Log: The state of Star Trek Online"

captain4mericacaptain4merica Member Posts: 55 Arc User
This past week, Star Trek Online's developers proved they're listening to community feedback. STO Executive Producer Daniel Stahl has released this month's state-of-the-game letter, Foundry missions are playable again, and a few of the game's developers began preparations for their appearance at the upcoming Discussion with the Devs panel, which will be co-hosted by Massively and Trek Radio at the official Star Trek convention in Las Vegas.

Still, there are some outstanding issues that haven't been addressed by Cryptic or Perfect World, and some players are beginning to wonder whether PvP has been laid to rest in STO. Also, the addition of a new EV suit to the ZEN Store has ruffled quite a few feathers, including mine. Join me while I sift through what happened in STO over the past week!

Enjoy :)

    My response:
You may want to review the comments listed in that State of Game article. A lot of players have pointed out issue after issue concerning the game that are being ignored by Cryptic staff. Repeated examples of poor customer service, CStore purchases being incorrectly processed without any resolution from Cryptic, players not being able to log into the game, the lack of any moderation in the support forum where racism, bigotry and personal attacks abound, the in game item exchange being bugged for no less than five months, many people not being able to access the foundry creator for months, etc. Mr. Stahl's article, which you may note wasn't even published by him but by another employee, is full of fluff and inaccuracies.

edit: What's also sad is that they don't even link to it. The link in the first paragraph actually links to a different massively article.

By the way, folks have noticed that the article wasn't even published by Stahl but by Branflakes? Kind of troubles me that he couldn;t even be bothered to do it.

As an aside, that is the correct spelling for inaccuracies, right? Google had an issue and it still doesn;t look right to me.

As far as I'm concerned, the state of the game is "poor" until they get the tailor fixed.

I think you're missing it chap. The article linked does indeed talk about state-of-the-game letter, on Massively's site.

That's because Brandon posts all things for the website as he's the community manager ;) Been that way for awhile now.

I believe you're missing what I'm talking about. The article doesn't link to the state of the game letter.

Not a big issue. Sorry that you're not understanding my point.

    Not sad, it's SEO.

I understand your point very well. The link is in place to get you to read other articles on Massively. It is not acceptable to link to external site through news article without permission, FYI...

That must be a rule with Massively then. if it is, well that just reenforces my issue that the article has issues.

Not worth arguing with it. I noticed a number of concerns about the article and raised them.

You're right, not worth arguing, it was a good article.

Heh, found the ACTUAL State of The Game buried two links inside 2 different Massively articles: http://sto.perfectworld.com/news/?p=625951

OP - Why not just post this link instead of a Massively Article which refers to another Massively Article when then refers to the real State Of The Game?

Trying to drum up business for Massively perhaps? Mmm Hmm

Yes... when you want ad revenue to go up, you don't send people off to another site.

...proved they're listening to community feedback.

Ouch ... I have a bad feeling about this
The suits are listed as 700 ZEN ($7.00 US) per character, and they offer no better protection than some of the mid-level Cardassian suits currently received as drops or as rewards in the game.

Wait? what? Cadassian Suits? Are the Ev suits from Tholian drops Cadassian?

For oncs rare instance I enjoyed most of the article. It felt more informative than bias worship.

Just one thing that instantly made me consider not reading the article itself:
This past week, Star Trek Online's developers proved they're listening to community feedback

    Listening must have different definitions.

Other than that, I think most of the points brought up were spot on. Although I love the editor / making missions in the Foudry...I'd rather wait then have another S4 happen...all those missions leaking into the actual server did make me laugh though... :P

I'm trying to schedule out at the 11am interviews...hope I can make it haha. Still deciding if I should ask about some of the money grabs in STO the past months / ask along the lines of trying to regain the trust of past players or what the future (if there is a true one) of STO's crafting and starship with the possible aid of fleet bases.

What's REALLY sad is that it was obviously an editing error and instead of, oh, maybe sending me a nice note to tell me the link was bad, you came in here to trash talk about it.

    That's real constructive.

    Thanks.

    Not.

    It is an amusing sequence...
developers proved they're listening to community feedback.

You want how much for that?
PvP languishes on the sideline... it's been difficult for the straggling PvPers to believe that the system won't just be gutted altogether.

The Foundry is back... well, sort of
aka. thanks for not repeating season 4 and destroying the foundry, and you're actually doing something after 1 year of ignoring community feedback about the foundry.
    live long and prosper!

Not trying to make some weird objection to the article. I just found the sequence of it amusing.
