Sack the bridge officer.....

Why is it on Star Trek when the captain says 'On screen' does the bridge office always display a tiny spec on the screen and they have to be told to 'magnify'?

    It's to stroke the captain's ego so he feels like he's doing something.

    The episodes keep coming up 5 seconds too short

    Contracts probably as well. The second string actors had to have so many lines per episode to justify their salaries.
