Point Defense Console (both of em) questions

originaltoastmanoriginaltoastman Member Posts: 7 Arc User
I currently fly the Heavey Escort Carrier and have a build I use for AoE spamming. That build uses the Torpedo Point Defense console, all phaser energy type, two phaser dmg tac consoles, a quantum torpedo launcher, and a quantum projectile dmg tac console. Relevent BOFF skills include torpedo spread III, Canon Volley III, Beam Fire at Will, and Attack Pattern Beta. I have some spare Zen, and am considering purchasing the Thunderchild to get the Phaser Point Defense Console.

So, questions I have:
Is the Torpedo Point Defense Console dmg affected by a photon projectile tac console?
Is the Phaser Point Defense Console dmg affected by phaser dmg tac consoles?
Does giving up two console slots to have both Point Defense Consoles seem like a good idea?

Thanks!

The Photon Torpedo PDS is affected by the Photon Torpedo damage console. Sitting in space without the Photon Torpedo Damage console equipped, then equipping it, sees an increase of around 400(?) damage per torpedo.

Cannon Scattery Volley, Attack Pattern Beta:3. and the Torpedo PDS console are a match made in heaven for the new PvE Fleet Missions. Just be ready to deal with the huge incoming aggro.

    Yes
    Yes
I gave up my Science slots for them.

Knowing that, if you choose to run both, you should be running Phaser weapons and Photon Torps.
You know Cryptic has Jumped the Proverbial Shark when they introduced Tractor Pulling to Star Trek Online! :D

Yes, the two consoles are buffed by phaser consoles and photon consoles respectively.

For me, when I bought a photon console and equipped it on my tac's HEC, the damage from each torpedo went from roughly 2,000 to 2,200. For a little bit, I thought that was a waste, but I realized that boosts the total damage by about 1,200.

So instead of doing 12,000 damage (just as a base number) they can do 13,200 damage. And that is per target, and since you can attack up to 12 targets, that's very significant against multiple foes, especially if they have an open shield facing. Phaser point defense is also boosted by phaser consoles, but it does rely somewhat on your weapons power as well, even if it doesn't drain it, it does make a difference.

Both consoles are affected by tactical buffs you have on you (like Omega 3, tactical fleet, etc), debuffs the enemy might have (beta 3, sensor scan, etc).

I don't recommend more than one photon torpedo buffing console though, any further additions really didn't help as much.

That said, for my KDF tac who was using the Disruptor version of that, I managed to buff that up to 1,700 damage a shot. Or 6,800 damage a second, 68,000 total base damage over the course of it's activation.

So, yeah, they are worthwhile, just remember you can't use them very often so don't try to rely on them unless you really need to use em.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

So you provided an answer to a question never asked, interesting.

Your response is incorrect, it can only be used on the Heavy Escort Carrier.

Phaser Point Defence console is affected by same skills/console as any other space phaser weapon. Also it works for Directed Energy Modulation for example. It has pretty high accuracy and brutal fire rate at 5km. It also scales with your weapon power like any other energy weapon, however it does not drain it when firing. This console can be installed on any ship.

Photon Torpedo Point Defence console is affected by the same skills/consoles as any other space photon torpedo weapon. It is a brutal barrage of 6 torpedoes for maximum of 8 targets. It can be installed only on Armitage and it's fleet version.

Both consoles are affected by +dmg buffs (attack pattern alpha/omega).

I use both consoles on my HEC, and they are affected by phaser & photon consoles.

But if you want to get a bit more mileage out of them, try opening up with the phaser pds, then use the photon pds, let the phaser strip shields and then the photons will all go straight to hull....very messy LOL
