I got all the way to LG50 with no one. Are your power levels set properly? If you're tac you want full power to weapons. Have you got good enough gear, as in top mk for your lvl?
There are many things that could be wrong, are all your skill points allocated? What weapon set up do you have? If you can tell us these things, perhaps we can help you improve? I got to the level cap at LG 50 with no problems at all. In fact on one of my Federation characters I'm flying a Tier 1 TOS Constitution at Commander 27 almost at Captain. PvE is generally very easy in this game, so long as you know how to get the most out of your ship and abilities.

When you started did you set you and your boff skills? If you did all the little annoying missions at qo'nos you should have a few boffs if i remember correctly and loads of skill points to spend. It's a good start, unfortunately the mission drops kinda suck for the most part unless you really like batteries until you get to the later episodes.
The only way I can see this happening is not knowing how to fly an Escort correctly. The whole game (on Normal anyway) is easy enough you could probably sleep through it and just mash spacebar. Except for ground, since that's slightly harder.
As the starting ship is essentially a more fragile Escort, you need to make sure you're always moving as that's a defense buff.
I just did the first mission yesterday...granted it was on normal I was able to survive the the romulan with basically no points in skills...I'm no expert player.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
did you remember to go to the fleet shipyard and get the biggest ship you can? I know my KDF guy started with a Tin-can and I had to go to the shipyard and pick up a bigger ship.

If you are referring to the BoP with that comment I resent it .. its actually made of wet paper!
Still KDF ships are fun and they teach you a lot about how to move in combat, especially if you are going to shove Dual Heavy Cannons on them. Just remember to use your tools to your advantage, creep up behind big enemies till you can see each weld clearly, decloak and with engine power low stay in the rear arc and tear through them. For smaller enemies just keep the distance and scatter your fire but just make sure you always use that decloak fire bonus.
I have noticed that many ships now have access to the consoles and weapons they have available to players. This could account for the spike in difficulty.
I was once DKnight1000, apparently I had taken my own name so now I'm DKnight0001. If I ask you a question it is not an insult but a genuine attempt to understand why. When I insult you I won't be discreet about it, I will be precise and to the point stupid.
I think the major problem is the BoP, because when you come from Fed you are not trained to use that kind of a ship. Most of the Fed-Escorts can stand an enemy long enough to kill him, the BoP is different.

Its sad but true that our current starting content is poorly executed and does little to help the player to begin his KDF toon.

Overall though the PvE aspects of the KDF are no more difficult than any PvE in STO and you should get the hang of things quickly with more gameplay.
It is not more difficult in terms of the missions or nature of gameplay but by poor design. Cryptic designed it much like Gremlin/Kemco did with Top Gear 2. Midway through the game all of the upgrades you bought were stripped from your car and you were forced to repurchase upgrades to remain competitive.
Cryptic has done this by making players play Fed until Cmdr then rolling a fresh KDF character at Cmdr with nothing. Ziltch. Nada. No credits. Basically you're starting off like you did at ensign with TRIBBLE for equipment and no credits but fighting much tougher foes. This is why KDF seems more difficult.

just started a new kdf the other day and ran her up to captain with the default gear.
the mission was go to mars, no problems.
ship and gear is what i got when i rolled her.
same with boffs didnt seem that much harder with s6 than s5.
psh KDF is easier now, with actual missions, when KDF was just released back in the day it was empire defense or explore in the areas around the omega leonis sector
plus you had to start out at level 2 iirc, i grinded out a KDF from start to Major general (or w/e the rank was, it was too long ago) there wasn't even this lower/upper half thing existing at that time

REAL 1000 day LTS vet since OB.
You unlocked your KDF at level 6 fed in the old days.
The KDF is not easier now its just less repetitive grinding through the levels due to a lack of PvE mission spacing that left gaps in the leveling progression.
The Devs condensed the KDF PvE content to start at lvl 20. The grind is the same content, just closer together and therefore it gives the illusion of being easier.
Still it would be nice to have that lower level content for those of us whom want to do more than shoot through content to endgame and spend the rest of our game experience grinding the same old Endgame content ove and over again.
Possibly if the KDF had a story and the ability to build a sense of investment in the character you make so many players would not be put off by the lack of starting materials, continuity of story and overall sense of half made attention it projects.
The most complaints I hear from KDF fplayers starting out is the lack of materials to help the player on his way at lvl 20 and the overall sense that the KDF has no purpose othe than altismic play when one gets bored wth thier fed.

Missed out on the ole "PvP Only" days I think.....
I miss the "PvP only" days, then at least the queues were popping frequently.
As for the super easy pve play the KDF has now, it's Super Easy. Kinda like the rest of the game. That of course is subject to the Obi-1 rule, from a certain point of view.
I have the same problem. I have 3 50's on fed, but Klingon is just unreal. I can not even get the other ships shields down before they kill me. And if there is a mission with friendlies they die in no less that 4-5 seconds and I have to deal with 5-7 ships. I have skipped though all the missions because the space part is totally messed up. I have to level with my doffs now to get me to the next round of missions and hope I can kill something.
One of the key things to learn if you're new to the KDF side is when to engage, and when to disengage.
Use your cloak every chance you get, both to sneak up to enemy ships so you have a favourable attack position, and also use the battle cloak to break off if you need to.
The starter BoP doesn't have the best DPS (especially if you keep the default weapon loadout), and it can't tank AT ALL unless you slot the right BOff abilities (engineering captain notwithstanding).
Cloaking with the smaller KDF ships is a must. As is taking one shot and then moving away very quickly. The ships available to a KDF player at the beginning are rowboats with popguns. Rather small popguns at that. One can upgrade the weapons and consoles with EC's and Dilithium. Highly recommended. Coming over to the KDF after being at lvl24 on the Fed side means you don't have that big, comfortable cruiser with all those Hull points anymore. Using a BoP the same way someone uses one of the mid range Fed ships is asking to get blown out of the stars. Whether you're playing PvE, PvP, or any of the STFs.
Take your time, be patient and be prepared to adjust and evolve the tactics and techniques you've already learned. I too had some difficulty when I first began playing the Klinks. The Respawn Button and I became very good friends in a very short time. I was a little aggravated, but I stuck with it. Because in the end, it really is worth it.

And mooching off the Fed-side alt.
But yes, some playstyle adjusting is needed from the Fed ship that's sturdy, but steers like a cow to something that's zippy, but has all the sturdiness of wet cardboard.

I didn't have problems. My KDF is at lv 30 now. Just got to learn how to fly the ship. Its a little different from the Feds specially on cruisers. As both mine is running them. For example the Fed cruiser I have is good at broadsiding. However my KDF K't'inga is all frontal attack. So I had to adjust my attack methods, and now I chew them up. I even took out a some of the games medium cruisers in a few seconds. Granted now my K't'inga has upgrades on weapons, but still carry the same types that it came with. Adjusting the attack methods is what is really needed on what I saw.

To be fair, if you think leveling a KDF character is to hard, then I think you may be playing the wrong game.
Some hints for space combat KDF nubs:
Keep moving, NEVER stop unless your cloaked. This is a must for bop's, the faster they move, the higher the chances of being missed, and less damage taken.
Use your cloak to get close to your target and from an angle that minimizes the damage output possible from your target, ie: get behind them, unload, pop heal skills as needed, if your being hammered by other enemies, shift power to shields (if not using a bop where it's to engines and battle cloak) recover, and return.
Have a look at your power levels, weapon power should be max, with the rest in engines and aux.
Check your boff skills, make sure they are trained, remember, you had to train and promote them yourself on your fed character, also ensure you have the right skills to match your weapons with your tac boff(s). Make sure your engi and sci boff(s) give you shield and hull heals, 1 tactical team is a must for all ships, not having it is asking for death timers.
Once you have done the tutorial run around The First City, head back to the shipyards and grab a ship that suits your play style or one that suits a style you want to try, the bops are not for everyone.
If after some practice keeping those points in mind you still can't work ship combat and level once or twice a day (or more), then I'm sorry, but this game isn't for you.
Also sorry if these have been mentioned before in this or any other thread.
KDF is harder because all our crew keep running into the doors during battle alerts. They can't shunt power to the shields or bypass damaged relays when they're on their TRIBBLE with flattened ridges. If only the Empire hadn't skimped on those door sensors... :P
Star Trek: Online - Now with 100% more dinosaurs!!
The biggest problem for me is that you don't have any money to change boff abilities before you do anything. Generally you have to do the first mission on normal difficulty and hope you get enough in drops to spec out your boffs
