A friend and I are looking for a new RP fleet. Something semi-active, and laid back. Maybe medium role play. Both of whom are EST players that try and get in game a couple times a week.
It's rare to see good RPing nowadays, so I'll share my part of the story.
I don't run a strictly RP fleet, but newbies and veterans here are encouraged to play STO not just for gaming purposes but to see the game world (and Star Trek) from the point of view of a starship captain or senior military officer.
Because we don't enforce RP rules and regulations, but allow everyone to find their inner Trek (and interact with each other using their Star Trek personas), this ends up being a very laid back form of roleplaying that comes into play during large team deployments.
Ship to ship and infantry ops more or less are planned using real-world knowhow thanks to everyone acting their part as a Starfleet officer or crew.
Team roles are enhanced by TNG-era storytelling and utopian Federation doctrine (such as the entire premise of Starfleet protecting weaker allied forces, and allowing junior officers maximum support to benefit their development).
Our chief of operations who is active daily on US timezones, is also a LARP leader in real life. Likewise I have about two decades of CRPG and fanfic writing experience.
We may not show our RP flair openly (we must always consider the target audience first) due to the state of STO roleplaying nowadays (not good at all), but when it comes to using roleplaying to accompany and to enhance STO gameplay experience... what we run takes little effort, is accessible and easily understood, and you're welcome to take a look around
As far as I know we are the only fleet around that uses RPing to: -
1) Develop advanced knowledge in STO game mechanics
2) Develop leadership skills in a team combat environment
3) Portray a TNG-era Federation modus operandi
4) Reduce the need to micromanage
5) Structure Fleet ranks, advancement, and personnel roles (The "Office of Profit and Acquisition" is really run like a Ferengi outfit, while "Strategic Operations Officers" are more or less identical to Worf's role on DS9)
STF Flight Instructor since Early 2012. Newbies are the reason why STO lives and breathes today. Do not discriminate.
