Am i crazy?

cedricophoffcedricophoff Member Posts: 153 Arc User
Like the title said, am i crazy? That is basicly the question i need an answer to by making this thread. I have a certain kind of vision as to what i would love to see added to this game, or fixed. And as far as i know, the ideas im going to write down here are ones that SHOULD benefit everybody. But then i dont know what everybody thinks ... so ill write it down and hope people reply. :)

First of all, something that some might already know but i have to repeat in this thread is. I think exploration should be the most important aspect in a game revolving around ST. And how i see this happening would be in more fleshed out random generated content in the exploration "clusters" as we have them in game. You cant tell me making it so that the randomly generated content there makes more sense and has more variety is above the skill of the devs? And sadly i have the feeling the revamped exploration will be heavily tied into fleet starbases ... :S

Second: I love my Boffs .... in my mind i have a security officer who's basicly worf, except for the name and the race (Gorn, :D). And we have them in game... Now Dstahl at one point said he regretted adding them to the game .... Seriously though... We have them now. And i want to keep them, and keep using them. I realize that this is an MMO and we "need" to work together with other players. But is having one Boff tag along to much to ask? No way he would allow his captain to beam down to an area without some security... Please for the love of jezus stop making content that forces us to beam down alone, especially if the situation is obviously extremely dangerous, like the recent tholian .... mission... thing .... abomination.

I could go on for a little while more but ... To be honest im tired of talking to a brick wall. There are so many good things that could be added to the game, but the illogical choice to focus on half the population (although its more likely 80% of the population now) who are in a fleet is beyond me. I dont understand it at all. In my eyes if i had some sort of say in the planning of the devs i would have gone for the "one galaxy to rule them all" idea before adding in starbases, because then the added loading screen for bases would be offset by less loading screen while travelling. Perhaps even remove the loading screens between the blocks and the exploration clusters and just have it like be a large "blank" area with randomly generated icons that you can explore to get equally randomly generated exploration content as mentioned before.

O well ... I think im alone in this thought now. And eventhough i dont pay anything anymore (lifer) im not sure i have the will to keep playing this game, even with my passion for Star Trek. I wish i could explore strange new worlds, with my friends or with my virtual crew. But i cant...

Thanks for reading.

    Yes, yes you are.

    Wait, what did you write?
"If you have never used Cello, I'm not interested in your browser opinion."

    At least they used paragraphs.

The poster is asking for a more exploration oriented MMO. And for the character to stop beaming down by them selves.

Well asking for it does not help on these forums. Posts like these dont get attention anymore. They have their agenda and that wont change.

What im asking is basicly if there are still people out there that agree to my point of view, or if they all abandoned ship.

I assume that if the devs find a really good and feasible idea on the forums, then they will implement it. A really good, but not as feasible idea would take lots of time. I think it was dstahl that mentioned a complete change to exploration, but only the devs know when or if that will be done.

You're also up against the mighty PW 34% Net profit margin. If it's not going to make them money and/or going to cost them money, major changes are a bit iffy.

You're definitely not alone in this. I too enjoy missions where your boffs are required. Like you, I've put a lot of development into my boffs over the last two years. It was extremely frustrating when the last Featured episode came out and only had one measly mission where you used a boff. I fear we won't see anymore boff included missions until around season 7, if then.

The so called "exploration" content in this game is in serious neglect. I suggested before, if they aren't going to update it any time soon, change how the star cluster missions work. Allow the player to specify what type of missions they prefer. If I prefer ground combat, then I would only get ground combat missions when exploring a system. Same for space combat, data sample gathering and the click/scan missions. Doesn't further exploration in a meaningful way, but it's more interesting then running the same old missions over and over just to be able to use your boffs.

My Star Trek Online time consists of Clusters ... primarily ground missions, thus beaming down with my BoFF's is 99% of MY STO. The remaining 1% is mainly Earth Spacedock or Academy to sell/log.

I hate getting 'Space' missions & will immediately leave the system & back to the Cluster until I do find a Ground Mission - my sister does exactly the same.

Star Trek Online without BoFF's is not Star Trek Online, it is a completely different game.

An option to allow me to specify a preference for Ground over Space would save me a lot of hassle & a waste of so many Cluster Anomalies ...
