I know that Torpedoes currently do 100% of listed damage to huills, (before resistances), and 25% vs Sheilds, (again before resistances), as these values come p a fair bit in some discushions.

However i've never seen the equivelent values for Beams and Cannons mentioned. I know none of them do 100% damage to sheilds before resistances. But does anyone know what the actual modifier is? It's a bit arkward to test after all on your own, so i figured i'd ask first and save myself some time.

    For energy weapons:

    Unlike torpedoes there are a couple more factors for damage. They are Range and Weapon Power level.

    Energy weapons do the stated damage at 50 power, I think 75 is 2x, 100 is 3x, 125 is 4x. The thing is that as you fire multiple energy weapons, your power level fluctuates so the energy weapon damage potential goes up and down depending on the available power level when the weapon fires.

    Also, energy weapon damage decreases with range. To get 100% of stated damage, you have to fire at nearly point blank.

    Torpedoes on the other hand, do not decrease damage with range and are not dependent on energy level.

    For energy weapon damage as far as vs shields or vs hull, its hard to tell. Cannons are more effective against hull, but its hard to tell if that is simply because cannons, like torpedoes deal more burst damage. Beams are better for taking down shields at range.
