Total ship customization

It would be cool and i stressed the word, COOL to give the word TOTAL CUSTOMIZATION a more in your face meaning by allowing your your loyal fans the ability to customize our ships to the fullest by first determining if the player wants to be a cruiser, escort, or science vessel. Then start building your ship from the ground up like customizing the complete interior meaning bridge, quarters, mess hall, transporter rooms, stuff like that to all the way to the exterior like from window types, deflector dishes ship plating. Also, it would be nice to customize your own unique nacelles and hull, and to change move your ships weapon banks to a different location depending on the type of weapon like fore stays in the front and aft stays in the back. this is my opinion and im just bringing it out there.

It's been a long dream for us to have such a system. But CBS said no to such ship exterior customization a long time ago. However, Cryptic has given us plenty in leeway that we can customize our exteriors nicely.

With customzied interiors, hopefully someday we might have more of a personal touch. Not sure on the level how SWG's housing customization was, but hopefully something to give interior decorators something to be proud of.

Yes but starting yet another thread about this just spreads things around and makes it harder to search the forums.

Plus now a volunteer moderator has to go back and merge this thread with one of the previous ones. You've created more work for them.

It would have been better to have searched for a previous thread and added your voice to that instead of making a new thread.

To answer your posting though, what we've gotten back from the devs is an idea that using the foundry, one could come up with an interior. From an art point of view, they;re kind of picky on how the ships behave and pivot on a center point to make them believable when they fly.

Customization like that is probably not going to happen. Again you may want to search for that to see the previous discussion on the topic.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

Not to mention the developers also (only very recently) commented on this. The ships in the game all have "connection points" for all their parts along a basic skeleton.

What you would get if you combined the hull of a Fleet Escort, the saucer of a Galaxy, the pylons of a Recon Science Vessel, and nacelles of a Miranda class is a bunch of disjointed parts floating in space. NONE OF THEM would actually be connected. They'd all be floating in space in the position that they're intended to be for their own ships.
