Defense mitigation

I was wondering if the percentage in the defense stats apply only to hull or shields as well.

I know for sure it works for your hull, but what about shields? Are the only things to help reduce the dmg to shields the shield power levels and emergency power to shields or skills that say "Reduce damage to shields"? Or does items like "Console - Engineering - Neutronium Alloy" help with shield damage mitigation as well?

    The defence value in your defence stat is a meashure of how good you are at dodging hits, it dosen't reduce them in any way. It's also not the enemies accurracy minus your defence for calculation purposes.
    AFAIK hull consles have no effect on sheilds, but i could be wrong.
