Closing the doors is rather confusing. You hit it once and it comes back saying "Code not accepted", then you can keep trying until you get a "Successful". If an officer shows up, they'll transport out, then you're left with a "Administer Aid" (?) option. This doesn't make sense.

How to reproduce (If known.)
Execute the mission, observe the result. You can keep spamming the same node until you get a successful.
How are you even getting this mission to activate? I have it selected, have collected the codes from the rescued parties, but, none of the "nodes" or whatever are even showing up for me to work on.
I've run all over the area highlighted on the map and all I can continue to do is rescue more personnel and shoot Tholians.
Post patch, when this was supposed to be fixed, I can report that it isn't. Sure the Tholian keeps spawning but now the rest isn't spawning at all. Impossible to complete mission and Inventory full of these codes.
Also no indication of how many codes you're supposed to collect.
I started the mission 'Thinning the Hive', got a code from a 'trapped friend', so went back and picked up Closing the Door to do both at the same time. I'm getting loads of codes, with no idea if I'm supposed to have one or two, or the 100 or so I have so far.

How it's supposed to work is this: there's a trio of nodes around a black-hole-esque portal that spews out Tholians. While your teammates (or turrets, in my case) are covering you, you use codes to shut down each of those nodes; shutting down all three gets you credit for the portal. Sometimes a node will fail, requiring you to burn more codes; as such, there's no "you need so many and no more"; it's open-ended, depending on how many recalcitrant nodes you get.
Of course, since the nodes are failing to reactivate reliably, it's understandable that the mechanism for how it works is not immediately obvious, but if you have at least one code in your inventory, you should be able to attempt to shut down a node.

THANK YOU for explaining the mission. That makes much more sense, and I can see why, if working properly, it would seem obvious to the devs and not necessary to describe the mission. Even having a counter next to the 'shut down nodes' portion of the mission journal (0/3) would have made it easier to figure out.
And, I was on fairly early morning, but didn't pick up this mission until probably 9:30-10 am ET today. Never saw one active node. There were no other instances, or the 'change instance' button was not working, because I tried that when it was mentioned in zone chat, and no window would come up to let me choose an instance. Just plopped me back in the middle of the oncoming Tholians.
