    Resists in this game are so powerful that as someone else said, even the highest DPS-dealing escort can in theory be tanked till his DHCs are floppy weenies. It's a little known secret but the reason Aux2SIFIII, EPtS(x), TSS(x), HE(x) and so on are popular is because you can chain the resist components (EPtS has 100% uptime, TSS doesn't share a cooldown, neither does HE, Aux2SIF has a spammable CD...). The heals are just a fringe benefit.

    While resistance has a cap and stacks multiplicatively, the "damage resistance" base number does not and the amount of resistance needed to tank damage is minimal. This is just BOff powers, too: I'm not taking Eng captains into consideration because God have mercy on whoever fights an Eng cruiser that knows what he's doing.

    My solution:

    Eliminate all stacking - no console stacks with any other console. Problem solved. No more taking 4 identical consoles hoping for the ever slight edge (but more often than not resulting in a munchkin that dies at the hands of someone who knows what they're doing).

    No ship type is any better than any other, it all depends on how you play it. I've seen science vessels take out escorts, and vice versa. Every ship type, class, and build has its own strengths and weaknesses. Figure out your strengths, and play to them.

    Science vessels are pretty much built to take out or at least neuter escorts, especially if it's a Sci/Sci. I'm not saying they don't have problems but science ships have a number of builds which are 100% hard counters to the only real strategy which escorts have, which is spike damage output.

    There's a reason escorts aren't really that common in the queues and it's because they're far too easy to counter in STO, especially with an organized team.

    Why is everybody proposing PvP as the gameplay style around which the game is balanced?

    Last I heard, the discussion was trending towards literally ripping out all the PvP (yes, Gozer specified it as worst case; last I heard it was getting pulled) and replacing it with a single map that used a new format.
