Bridge Officer Gender/Class Editing

I don't know if this question has been posed a lot or not, but has there been any discussion about being able to modify the Gender and/or class of an existing bridge officer?? (I reckon gender to be the most important here)
Some VERY rare Boff's (like the android or the photonic crewmembers) only appear in male versions. Myself (and I can imagine many others) might prefer female versions, or perhaps have them in different classes than the science/tactical/engineering departement.
I thought I read cryptic was working on it, but is this still on the table?? I would happily buy change-tokens for 125/220 C-points as this is quite an important issue, no??
Also the ability to edit photonic crewmembers has been asked quite a lot I think. I never really saw the logic behind locking their appearance.
