Escort ability chains

I do not have a tribble account so I can not try it withtout expending C, Z or whatever points.

I have the classical TT1+2, CRP2+3, TS1+1 chain with cannons on my escort.

Did anyone tried to have 3 DBBs with the same chain, but replacing CRPs with

a) BOs
b) FAWs ?

With BOs I had the problem, that I could not mitigate the -50 power every 15 second. Although I was not speced with EPS skil, but I do not thing that would matter much, when weapon power drops to 20-30.
With FAWs it is the same problem (and the aggro :) ), but a bit less.

So, anyone tired such a built?

I run both builds and like both. As far as burst and sustained damage, if you tend to find yourself fighting farther out (5km to 10km), the beam build can produce better results.

If you get closer in, cannons have greater potential, but you have to watch that 45* DHC arc. It's easy for your rear turrets firing off to make you think your DHC are also firing off when they are not. Sometimes running single cannons up front can actually be a bit more productive with their 180* arc.

I have found either build can be very good, particularly if you're a Tac captain with lots of weapons performance resources and a Leach console.

Personally, I love the look of antiproton beams, especially beam over load.

How do you manage the power of the BOs?

You should get rid of that TT2. It does nothing over TT1. All escorts that know what they're doing run 2x TT1, because anything else is a waste of a Boff slot that could go towards an Attack Pattern or something. Plus, the escorts have that extra ensign tac that is perfect for it.

As for keeping weapon power up, there are weapon batteries and EPTW. If you're an engineer, they have two other abilities to keep power high.

I play an Engineer Armitage Beamboat sometimes.
Quite funny, lower DPS than a cannonbuild, but much more flexible for grouptanking situations.

But I use the same specc for cruisertanking (I just switch ships/BOFFs), so results may vary ;)

My perferred setup on an escort is dual beams and torps in the front with turrets in the rear. I used BO1 at first, but I figured that with the -50 my DPS was probably the same over time as if I didn't use it at all. However, it was nice knocking out shields with one shot so the torp(s) could hit hull on the first attack run.

I have since just switched to FAW and Cannon Spread. It's two different BOFFs so some may consider it a waste. But if you don't use both at the same time it could be useful for knocking down those borg super torps and keeping the AOE attack nearly constant.
