I could use some help with consoles

towanitowani Member Posts: 104 Arc User
Hello. Just as my title says, I could use some help, please.

I've been playing for a bit now, since around F2P, on and off. I play mostly only a Tact officer on an Escort.

I get that for the tactical consoles, you use ones that boost the weapons you're using. Again, I'm sorry I don't know exact names, but since I'm using Dual Heavy Cannons I have 3 matching Mk XI consoles for that bonus and 1 console for my torpedo bonus.

But, for the Engy and Sci consoles, I'm really quite lost as to what is good or what isn't useful.

I'd appreciate some help, feedback, or a link if this is explained in detail somewhere.

Thanks!

Engineer Consoles: Resistance consoles for what you do the most. ie If your doing STFs alot, get Electroceramics for Plasma defense and Monotanium for Kinetic
    OR
You can generalize and get Neutroniums.

Science Consoles: Field Generators are always useful

    Field Generators definitely.

I put the Borg Console in a Sci or Engineer slot.

I'm going to throw in a question: is "Biofunction Monitor" worthwhile or not?

i totally agree with you on the tac consoles. like you i don't have all names memorized. i like neutronium consoles (i think it is) that give protection against both energy and kinetic damage, shield regenerators, anything that increases weapons damage.

look at the exchange. anything you see there in abundance and at low prices is probably not worth having. if it is totally missing on the exchange that is probably something you want to consider. supply and demand.

i would say they are not worthwhile, not becuase i have any real evidence, but i have tried them and noticed no change when i used them. on the exchange there are plenty of them to be had so i don't think they are real good.

Ah, yes, if the exchange price makes you go "WUT", then it's probably worth having.

If have some extra Dil to throw around, the Dil store is an alternative to the exchange.

The mission "Secret Orders" can be replayed for different consoles, notably:

[Console - Engineering - Neutronium Alloy Mk XI]

The in-game description of science consoles is extremely lacking. I don't even know what half of them do. It's like if they had a console called the Hibby Jibby Console the description would be "Increases your Hibby Jibbies."

    I use the Wiki:

    http://www.stowiki.org/Science_Consoles

    http://www.stowiki.org/Tactical_Consoles

    http://www.stowiki.org/Engineering_Consoles

Although that still doesn't tell me if they're actually useful. For that, I use Google (which usually finds thing here on the forum.)

And I wouldn't bother with the Hibby Jibby console -- it only works in Sector Space.

Thanks for the great info so far all.

So the consensus seems to be for:

    Science Consoles: Field Generator and

    Engineering Consoles: Neutronium Alloy

Any other input? I really appreciate the feedback because I always just filled the Sci and Engi consoles in with whatever not knowing actually if they were any good.

You said that you are using cannons, and that you have consoles to increase your cannon damage. Please note that the "pre-fire chamber" tactical consoles increase all damage from cannons, neither the type of cannon or type of energy damage maters to the pre-fire chamber. But the % increase is lower than the consoles that increase a specific energy type.

The damage-type specific consoles give a higher % increase. So the highest damage will come from using only 1 damage type (not counting torps). I have several sets of weapons to play around with, but I rarely mix damage types so that I can maximize my DPS. If you are mixing damage types then the pre-fire chamber is a good choice, but the main reason to use different types of weapons is for the bonus effects the weapons can "proc". A skittle ship using phasers to shut down a sub-system, disruptors to reduce damage resist and tetryons for the extra shield damage cna be kinda neat, but it will never match the DPS of a ship that is using all weapons of the same type and stacking 3 or 4 consoles for that damage type.

If I remember right, the pre-fire chambers max out at +20% damage (MK XII VR) while the damage type specific consoles max out at 30% (MK XII VR). So, with your 3 consoles you are adding (at most) +60% damage instead of 80%. Most people do not have the Mk XII VRs because they can be super expensive, but even the blue Mk X-XI are better than the pre-fire chambers for pure damage out-put.
