Am I going mad, or was the cost of schematics nerfed? (Or both.. those aren't mutually exclusive)
I swear I remember these being cheap, like 10 EC each. I went to work on research skill for a new alt, and found they are 10k EC each. At the level you are directed to Memory Alpha to learn how to make things, 10k is a lot of EC. In fact, it is several times more than the finished value of anything you could possibly use at that level.
There is already resource scarcity and cost of the unreplicateable materials. Why would research and crafting need to be even more expensive?

(and I'm old, I can remember pretty far back...

If you don't like the price, you can always 'craft' your own schematics using Tier 1 data samples...
(And this is actually a good way to earn intial crafting experience, as regardless, you need those schematics...)
Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.
Ah well.. just my memory I guess..... still doesn't make a lot of sense....
