So this is what it's come to. I tried to send a message to a friend in-game and this was the response...
I'm only going to say this once, I saw this coming. It was only a matter of time before PWE was going to start using these tactics to get me to shut up. Sorry, but this doesn't intimidate me in the slightest. There are other forms of communication.
What I want to know is why? Why do you treat players like they're your drones and you can do anything to them, make them say what you want and they'll still give money? I'm not paying a cent more. I don't pay you money to be treated like this.

It should be interesting to see how many things we can blame on PWE.
I stubbed my toe this morning, and I'm sure PWE SUCKS because it's all their fault.

But, as others stated, somebody must have reported you for some reason...
anyway, we don't get the whole picture here. So commenting is kind of useless.
So no warning or notification? I find it funny since I haven't even played in a while. And I rarely ever chat in zone anymore. This is really awesome... I'm glad I've been paying for other people to control my chat privileges.

Yeah that's how it goes and it's something you can blame solely on Cryptic, even though it's never once affected me it's not a system i'm fond of.
1 discuss religion or politics ?
2 spam the chat with recruitment for a fleet?
3 try and sell something Repeatedly?
4 make sexual comments?
5 pull out a whip , fire extinguisher or other silly item?
6 dis PWE/cryptic or startrek itself?
7 make Gorn jokes?
8 roleplay in space dock?
all of these can trigger waves of ignores

I think it's more than five (I've never heard the exact number myself), but this is indeed what probably happened.
I've done all of those. lol jk. seriously though, I talk TRIBBLE about PWE on a daily basis, and I made one Gorn joke a few days ago... just one. In fact I only talk about how much I hate PWE here in the forums, yet I'm still free to post away, so that leaves me with one conclusion, the Gorn joke.
I'm glad that people have the time of day to moderate the forums and protect us all from I quit posts and what not. That's not like a resource that could be better used for determining whether or not a player loses chat privileges or anything useful that would actually help the gaming community.

I use to watch zone chat and when a user asked a question I would not answer the question in zone, but in a private message. Well Gold spammers have ruined that system now where they Spam PM everyone, so users have said if they get a private message from someone they don't know they auto report them as spam.
Well multiple people have said that they do this, so I went ahead and removed Zone and Local chat so I can't see it or type in either, when they finally fix the spam reporting system (HAHA) I will readd zone and local chat.
If you don't want to be silienced I would suggest not chatting in local or zone, and don't PM users you don't know. Also so you don't chat in either zone or local I would suggest you make it so you can not see or chat in either.

I really don't know about this fine fellow... ^^^^ but his approach is more akin to a sushi chef chopping off an arm, rather than risk losing a finger. I chat about stuff all the time in zone.. and although I don't make it a habit to dicsuss politics or religion <those two things can start wars ya know. :biggrin:> I still feel free to chat and ask questions.. and send tells to others, even sometimes if I don't know them, asking questions and such.
I crack jokes... offer advice.. etc. I don't really get these constant or perma silence bans which you all speak of.
Oh, and btw, I chat all the time in zone and local..everywhere I go. Now I don't get constantly silenced every time I open my mouth,, far from it lol...but then again I don't-
1.) Spam advertisements for my fleet EVERYWHERE I go constantly, and non stop.
2.) Act like an American elitist redneck calling all countries pathetic and FAIL.
3.) Act like an English elitist chav calling all countries <namely America> pathetic and Fail.
4.) Spam the same item I want to sell over and over 600 times rather than just put it up on the exchange.
5.) Throw insulting remarks at groups of people and their "lack" of intelligence based upon particular religions or political opinions....Over and over and over again.
-These things will very quickly get you ignored and/or reported. I am willing to bet a few million ec that you other fine fellows are guilty of one or two.. <and some of you ALL> of these things. THAT is why you silenced.

I have to say, I have been silenced a couple of time myself... it happened when I was arguing with someone in a fleet <not mine> but I may have angered them a lil bit :biggrin:
and our personal conversation quickly turned into one involving 10 or 15 of his fleet mates,, in and out of zone chat, and low and behold next thing I know I am silenced.
NOW, yes it wasn't fun...lol but in 24 hours I was back on, and I learned not to talk to that particular person again or I would get silenced by his fleet :P. No big deal I just ignore the individual and the worst culprits from his fleet and go about my business lesson learned.
So even when I have been silenced.. it wasn't that big of a deal. All in all...most of the time if you are getting silenced.. you prolly deserve it, and if you are getting silenced all the time.. you prolly NEED it.

I am not sure it is so much "control your chat privileges" as it is controlling how you affect other people?s rights. There is a list of guidelines that we all should abide by to be part of this community and if one person is breaking the rules and bothering outer people then they should be silenced. Either that or you have more rights than the people you are affecting. Now if people have picked on you and unjustly reported you as SPAMMING or being inappropriate when you have not been then that is another thing. That is far from fair and you should have the right to complain.
This is a game to have fun and IMO, if some people can?t have fun without bothering others then they should be playing games by themselves or with their own group of friends.
:biggrin: OK, this made me giggle, we have Chavs in STO? [sigh] it's only a matter of time until the Type 8 Burberry hull pattern comes out!
The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th time I answered someones question in zone chat on Sol Station and either some people didn't like what I had typed or something, but I got silenced
The 5th time was right after I left a fleet, had not typed one word anywhere after leaving and noticed I had been silenced when trying to PM a friend.
The sixth was when I was on DS9 after an STF (Good run) and was chatting with others in zone, when I could no longer chat.
Accidental reporting users as spam happens. But when users know that reporting people as spam because they dislike or disagree with them is abuse of the system. Users report others as spam because it will do 2 things put them on their ignore list and could also get a user they dislike or disagree with silenced and PO'd for 24 hours.
Ok out of the 6 times I have been silenced 4 were after chatting in zone, 1 was after a fleet recruitment and 1 after leaving a fleet. Ok I give you the 1 silence for fleet recruitment. but the other 5 are abuse.
My experience has taught me if you don't need to chat is zone don't you're better off.
If the auto silence feature is removed then the problem is solved. Once you block someone, that's it. You never see anything from them ever again. Sure they could create a troll account and come back to harass you, but once again it's one click and they're done. That's all this game needs and our problems of being silenced are all gone.

It is cumulative.. 4 ignores 6 months ago and even if you logged in 6 months later and got the 5th ignore means you get silenced for 24 hours. It's stupid.
