You can target the web nodes to try and destroy it. You can destroy certain nodes to take down a triangular portion of the web. If caught inside you can't get out. If touching it, your hull can melt fast.
I encountered them in a starbase blockade mission. (Season 6, Tribble)
They do kinetic and tetryon damage and shoot Thermionic Torpedoes. They also shoot Heavy Disruption Torpedos, which are like three moving orbs together.

Nice screenshots; sure looks like the Tholians are coming along. It's nice to see they've actually got some ship design behind them too. I was worried we'd be seeing re-used ENT & TOS style designs, but it looks like we've got some new ones to shoot down instead. This pleases me (thank you Cryptic).
Here's hoping the next set of screenshots will be ground-based.
Quick Question - How easy/hard are they to destroy?
Wixi
Thats a hard question to answer. During this fleet scenario, I was not often alone with them, so it was reasonably easy to defeat each group considering I had my fellow VAs backing me up.
There were also a few types of triangular ships. From larger ships, to smaller ships and then web nodes. So there is a lot to shoot at. I'm not sure what the disruption torpedoes do (debuff?) but if your not careful you can very quickly find yourself getting trapped inside the web.
One thing that is not clear from the images, is that the web collapses or decreases in size when it naturally ends (as opposed to having the nodes destroyed I guess). At least it seemed that way. Having had some of it burn through my shields and armor more than once, I can only imagine the horror of what it would be like to be still trapped inside it when it shrunk in on you.
All in all, they seem to be a nice new enemy in space at least.
Looks like the fast acting web version. Excellent. I look forward to getting ensared in it.

To be honest I had to read up on Tholians on Memory Alpha (http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Tholian). I have only seen a few TOS, and more of a fan of TOS/DS9/VOY/Movies. May have to rewatch the ENT episodes mentioned on MA
Looks fun, but curious how much lag the tholian web produces? I still hear people having lag spikes when Nebula captains use the Sensor Net.
I didn't have any lag issues on the Fleet Blockade maps with the Tholians. I did however have serious lag problems on the Defense map. I've played PVP with 10 carriers spamming away and didn't have the lag that I got during the Fleet Defense.

Hmmm. Maybe, Mirror Universe Tholians? That would explain a lot.
I thought I remembered hearing a long time ago that Tholians might actually exist in (or at least be aware of) both the Prime Universe and the Mirror Universe at the same time, and is one of the reasons they demand punctuality so ruthlessly at times (as certain things have to be lined up in both universes) and seem act without reason other times (maybe reacting to something happening in the other universe).
In another tie-in with Tholians and the Mirror Universe, when the TOS-era USS Defiant was trapped in the Tholian web, it ended up getting sent to the Mirror Universe (and back in time to the Mirror Enterprise era).

Can't wait to blow 'em up.
Is this a hint to an alliance between the Tholians and The Teran Empire?
